Smoking fetishism ("capnolagnia") is a sexual fetish based on the sight or image of a person smoking. The smoker is commonly female, since most smoking fetishists are heterosexual males. For many of them, the fetish appears to have had its roots in early childhood. Some smoking fetishists merely observe, while others become personally involved with smokers. Several online vendors cater to the fetish with videos and photos, which often also show explicit sexual acts.
Early newsgroups in which smoking fetishists participated were alt.smokers.glamour and alt.sex.fetish.smokers.[citation needed] Smoke Signals is an online magazine oriented towards the fetish.[citation needed]
