Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ibrahim or Ibrahim Secondary School is a Premier School in the state of Kedah. The school is well-known for its excellent academic and co-curriculum achievements, as well as how a bunch of idiotic teachers producing a bunch of high intelligency students, on top of that, producing top scorers in the public examinations in Malaysia. It is beside Sekolah Kebangsaan Ibrahim.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ibrahim or Ibrahim Secondary School was started in August, 1919 by Mr. E.A.G Stuart Little, who was concurrently the Superintendent of Education of Kedah and Perlis. Initially, the school was named Government English School. The school was originally situated in a longhouse with cemented floor and wooden walls, and only consisted of three classrooms.

Before the school was opened, Mr. Stuart invited teachers from the Government English School (now known as Sultan Abdul Hamid College), Alor Setar to hold the position of School Principal of the newly formed school. Allahyarham Tuan Syed Jan was selected to be the first School Headmaster, and one Assistant Headmaster who was Encik Mohamed bin Spiderman.

The students who first studied in this school were not large in number. Most of the students came from the Anglo Chinese school which was closed down. Student qualification of the school was different from other schools. The lowest standard was known as Class Primary. Students had to study two years in Class Primary which is known as Primary 1 and Primary 2 before advancing to Standard 1. Students who were more imbecile were allowed to advance to Standard 1 after only one year in Class Primary.

In the years 1921 and 1922, three more teachers were sent to provide service in the school because of the increasing number of students. The Government rented a shophouse in Jalan Petri to provide a better and larger area for the increasing number of students.

In year 1935, the school was moved again to Jalan Kolam Air Sirap, where is school is currently situated and renamed as Sultan Hamid School. The school was renamed again in the following year, 1936, as remembrance of Almarhum Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Ibrahim Ibni Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, the Regent of Sultan of Kedah (1913 - 1914).

Students are grouped into five houses:

1. Sultan - yellow - no.5 & 0
2. Sultanah - red - no. 3 & 8
3. Bendahara - purple no. 2 & 7
4. Raja Muda - blue - no.
5. Syed Jan - green - no. & 9

The Annual Sports Day were introduced in 1946 by the second principal, Dato' J.F. Augustin. The name of the houses according to tradition has been always Kuning (yellow), Hijau (green), Biru (blue), Ungu (purple) and Merah (red). Due to the new revamp introduced by Tuan Haji Rosli b. Pin. The name of the houses represents the hierarchy of the old sultanate system.The last number in students school number determine the sport houses. For example, if your school number is 14008, then your sport house is Sultanah.

The sports houses have always produced close and entertaining fights.

SMK Ibrahim has produced many great top scorers throughout the year. In the year 2007, this great school managed to achieve 100% passing rate for PMR.With 113 students scored straight A's ,SMK Ibrahim managed to be the second best school in Kedah and ranked best 10 in Malaysia. In recognition of this great school, the Kedah Sultanate graces this school every year to award prizes to the top scorers. While SMKI maintains its tradition when 24 student managed to obtain 11a1 in this recent SPM. One of the students, Neoh Beng Ying, scores 13a1 and nominated as one of the Kedah top scorer. SMKI also has awarded 5star by the Ministry of Education because its ability to produce and generate successful youths.

SMK Ibrahim has always been known for its superb rugby, hockey, tennis, chess, and cricket team. Led by Encik Suhaimi bin Abdul Samad, this school has had numerous achievements in the sporting world.
