Due to being a significant grocery vendor in it's own right, as well as being clearly tied to the history of other large grocery store chains (Smith's, Fred Meyer, Yucaipa, ... the list goes on). They were also an early pioneer of the supercenter concept. So I'm removing the notability tag.

That said, this article is a mess, and there are few good online sources. Any wikipedians in the Phoenix metro area willing to go to the library and dig up some good citations? -- Kaszeta 20:52, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Smittys logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. [edit] Missouri (Joplin)

At this time, I am aware of at least one Smitty's store in existence in Joplin, Missouri. This store was re-branded Smitty's after Albertson's pulled out of the market. I will see if I can do some research on Smitty's stores in the area perhaps by looking on line for newspaper accounts. The one store I know of is located on Maiden Lane 24.32.126.105 23:56, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
