Smith River is an unincorporated community 13 miles (21 km) north of Crescent City in Del Norte County, California, USA. As of 2000, the population was 2,003. It's ZIP code is 95567 and its area code is 707. It is bordered by the Smith River National Recreation Area.

In the state legislature Smith River is located in the 4th Senate District, represented by Republican Sam Aanestad, and in the 1st Assembly District, represented by Democrat Patty Berg. Federally, Smith River is located in California's 1st congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of D +10^[1] and is represented by Democrat Mike Thompson.
