[edit] Spam

I just noticed you've been adding a huge number of external links to http://www.wibeaches.us . Is there any good reason for adding these links? To me it just looks like good old spamming.

I am adding a link to a site that contains information on beach health for only those places where is applicable. Like, beaches in douglas county are monitored and there is good historical data on the beaches. The site also provides info on the program. This program has an affect on the health of the beaches and also tourism I imagine. Its as applicable as the county pages. The program is run by the DNR and the local county governments. Check out the website and you'll see its actually an informative site. Its managed by the USGS.

Not trying to add "spam" but trying to add helpful info. I think its more helpful than say in the US Hwy 12 page where they list WisconsinDells Attractions... basically a cheep form of advertising for companies. At least the Beach Health Website gives people info they can use to make informed decisions or use in school reports/research.

Cheers. ~Smchase

Fine Smchase, sorry if I caused any trouble.
I'm writing on parks and lakes myself -- I live in Stockholm and recently wrote about Lake Gömmaren and Gömmaren Nature Reserve. Nothing like Wisconsin I guess, but I must admit I know very little about your part of the US.
However, you did add dozens of link to a single site, which typically is referred to as spamming no matter if you are directly affiliated with the site. Wikipedia guidelines on external links are detailed on Wikipedia:External links. The section "Links normally to be avoided" clearly includes "Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject". Links to local weather forecasts and such should typically not be included as they are not directly related to any specific location. I did a quick test on a few pages were you added the external links to see if this guideline applies:
When I saw you adding dozens of external links to a single site I was still hesitant about it being spam. So instead of just reverting you, I dropped a question here on your talk page. Instead of replying you kept on adding links, so I turned to an administrator for advice which resulted in the warning below.
Hope my poor English isn't causing any confusion.
BTW, nice work on Badger Army Ammunition Plant (external links should always go on the bottom of the page and be limited to a minimum).

I didn't respond until I did because I didn't see the comment by you until just the other day. Just not familiar enough about how messages are recieved I guess. Sorry for confusion. If you select the county on the beach site you get the info on beach quality. ~Smchase
