[edit] Re: Comment

Hello, You just deleted a Page I was making, did I do something wrong, I'm not sure —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartjoe299 (talkcontribs)

Hello! Firstly, please add new comments to the bottom of my Talk page - scattering them randomly about the previous conversations makes it difficult to find and keep track of them. Secondly, please sign your Talk page comments with four tildes, ~~~~ in order to make it easier to communicate with you. Thirdly, please give a link to the article that was deleted. I work through a lot of articles when I'm on shift, so a link to the title is vital for context. I can't help if I don't know what you are talking about! [edit] Buffy Season 8

Hi. I know Season 8 is the official canon continuation of Buffy, but try not to confuse issues of the comic with episodes of the TV series. First of all, a single issue of the comic is not equal to entire episode (Long Way Home would probably be counted as one "episode" even though it is four issues). Second of all, the two medias of television and comic books should be kept separate to avoid confusion. Thanks. Paul730 22:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Appearances

Hi, you're doing a great job with the Buffyverse appearances! :) I added Antique to Xander's page since it's also canon. How about separating canon and non-canon appearances? For example, the Buffy movie is non-canon, but Buffy still appeared in it. Instead, why not include The Origin, which is the canonical version of the film, and move the film to a non-canon section. I think the novels and comics should be mentioned at least, but you don't have to list them all by name, obviously. Also, maybe mention the video games as well, with a brief mention of the charater's role, like they do in the Marvel superhero pages (see Storm for an example). This would be especially relevant for playable characters, like Willow and Spike in Chaos Bleeds. Good luck! Paul730 06:22, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Canon

Yeah, the issue of canon isn't very clear. Just look at my discussions with Nalvage on my talk page to see that. The basic rule is that anything created by Mutant Enemy (Joss Whedon and any of the writers from the show) is canon. That means that Tales of the Vampires and Tales of the Slayers are canon. Sometimes stories from the old comic book series are considered more or less canon too, such as Reunion and Ring of Fire, since they were written by Doug Petrie and Jane Espenson. The Origin is considered canon because it was adapted from Joss Whedon's movie script and has been confirmed by Whedon to be "pretty much canon." The Buffyverse chronology pages depict non-canon events in italics, and if you need more advice, you could always contact Nalvage because he/she seems to know more about it than me.  :) Paul730 21:54, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, User:Zythe and I were discussing what to do with the appearances sections. We agreed to have Buffy, Angel, and Season 8 listed as subsections since they're the main series, with brief paragraphs of prose detailing the other material, canon and non-canon. We decided not to list any of the old comics, since their canonicity is variable. To see what we mean, check Buffy Summers#Appearances. Paul730 04:44, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Appearances

The appearances sections are looking much better. They're not perfect by any means, some articles (such as Anya's) are still missing a non-canon section and some work should be done to improve consistency between the pages (just to make them look nicer), but all in all you've done really well in improving a section, which until recently, I hadn't given much thought to. You deserve this!

The Buffyverse Barnstar
(For working tirelessly on improving the Buffyverse appearances and implimenting others' advice. Well done!)

PS. I just noticed that those Season 8 credits on youtube were made by you. I'd leave a comment but I don't have an account. They were really good - the best comic credits out of a pretty decent bunch - if you add Faith and Andrew (and maybe take out some spoilers like Ethan and Warren) they'll be perfect! [edit] RE: Something to do

Hi, I just got done working on Buffyverse appearances with User:Paul730, they now have canon, and non-canon appearances, well anyway I was wondering if there was anything else you think I could work on, seeing as it's summer vacation for me, and I have nothing to do. ---Smartjoe299 17:15, 15 June 2007

Write a fanfic, I'd like to read one :P ~ZytheTalk to me! 16:17, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

The problem with most of the Buffyverse pages is that they're all written in-universe, as though the characters are real. If you have any magazine or DVD interviews with the cast and crew to incorporate into the articles, that'd be very helpful! :) Some of the pages are a bit too long plot-wise (Harmony and Wesley) so if you'd like you could try to cut them down a bit. That's what I've been trying to do to Buffy and Spike's pages. Or you could try cleaning-up some of the less high profle articles, like the episode pages. Paul730 18:00, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TV/Comics

Issues of the comic are not the same as episodes of the television series. I know that to us, as fans, it all seems like one big continuous story, but the two medias are different and should be kept seperate. Someone who knows little about Buffy may confuse them, and believe that "The Long Way Home" is an TV episode. Please do not confuse the terms "issue" and "episode" again.  :) Also, there doesn't seem to be much point of making a big deal about Willow being absent from #1, since she'll likely be missing from many more in the future. Since upcoming stories do not feature the Scoobies, and the Faith arc may not feature Buffy and Xander, I'm sure everyone will be missing at some point. Also, I'm not sure we should say "X has the third most Buffyverse appearances", since it doesn't seem to have much point. Maybe for Angel, Willow, and Buffy, but not Lorne and everyone else. Soz for the moan. Paul730 01:36, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

I prefer

to

because if a character only appears in #1 and #3 of a story, putting 1 - 3 suggests that they are in #2 as well. Oh, and I know this is ridiculously anal and nobody will care about it except me, but could you put a comma between "Long Way Home" and "Part X", because that's how they do it with episodes; "Becoming, Part Two", "Graduation Day, Part One". Thanks. Paul730

Oh, and sorry again, but I don't think you're supposed to put unneccessary capitals; "Canonical Appearances" should be "Canonical appearances". Personally, I prefer it in caps but I think it's a policy or something. Paul730 17:14, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh here, I found the policy Wikipedia: Manual of Style (headings). Paul730 17:20, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dates

Uh, I would just put the years they appear, but's that's just my opinion, not a policy or anything. Paul730 17:20, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

For someone like Willow, who only guest stars in Angel, I wouldn't put the dates on the heading, since the dates of her eps are included in the list. Same for other guest stars like Amy, but not for guest stars who become regulars like Spike and Anya. Paul730 17:23, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Buffy appearance dating

I would prefer it was more like (fictitious example):

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Johnny appeared in seven episodes between 199X and 200X. He apppeared in Season Four episode "Monsterland" and in...

But whatever! :P ~ZytheTalk to me! 20:06, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Here's my (very) simplicised version:

Buffy
BTVS
Buffy was a reg for all 7 seasons (1997 - 2003). She appeared in XX eps.
Spike
BTVS
Spike was a reg from S4 to S7 (1999 - 2003). He appeared in XX eps, including guest appearances in:
Season 2 - (1997 - 1998) "School Hard", "Becoming, Part 2"
Season 3 - (1998) "Lovers walk"
Amy
BTVS
Amy appeared in XX eps as a guest star:
Season 1 (1997) - "Witch"
Season 2 (1997 - 1998) - "Bewitched..."

I think it might already be like that for most characters. I hate the way the Mayor's appearances look, but have never got around to fixing them. Paul730 21:56, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

I completely agree with Paul. :) ~ZytheTalk to me! 22:31, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Mayor

Well done. I added a non-canon section, but it looks a lot better now. :) Paul730 23:22, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bullets

From few that I've looked at, only the individual episodes (if someone is a guest star) are listed in bullet points, with the title of the series unbulletised. That's fine by me. Paul730 16:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Looks good to me. As long as it's clear, tidy, and consistent on all Buffyverse pages, I don't really mind. Oh, and could you please sign your messages because it makes it easier to reply. Ta. Paul730 16:01, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response: Ginny Weasley

I noticed you were putting Ginny back in relations for the charactors, but she belongs, in student's because she is still a student in this point. (epilogue doesn't count). The only reason that fred and george, and the other Weasley's are in relations is because their out of school. So please don't put Ginny back in their unless you can find a logical reason to do so. If so that means, we also have to put Draco in relations too. ---User: Smartjoe299

If you notice, only character that don't fit into any other catagory go in hogwarts stundents, ginny however can be catigorized as a relation, so that is where she should go.→041744 02:30, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Season 8

Hi man. I have no real objection to the comics being mentioned if other people are okay with that, I just think it's a mistake to refer to them as episodes when not even Joss and Dark Horse are doing that. I'm not sure how other people feel about including the comics, but I probably should have edited the comment instead of deleting. --Nalvage 23:50, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

The images you're uploading for the Buffy pages are great quality, but you need to include fair use rationale or they're gonna get deleted really fast. [edit] Total Appearances

Hi Smartjoe. I removed them because they continued to confusingly refer to comic issues as "episodes", and because I thought it very non-notable to say, "[Character x] holds the record for 8th most appearances". 8th most is not, in my opinion, a remotely important record. Who was 14th most? 28th most? Doesn't seem worth mentioning, to me. Can you point me to where a discussion on including those comments took place? --Nalvage 16:13, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling note

I have a pile of spelling issues, so please don't take this personally; I've noticed a dozen or so places where you linked to 'Willow Rosenburg', instead of the actual spelling, Willow Rosenberg. Since all the 'burg' spellings I just corrected seem to come from your edits, I thought I'd just give you a heads up on that! --Thespian 23:45, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Moonlight series.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Moonlight series.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Angel: After the Fall

I know you mean well, but you can't just copy and paste whole sections from other websites, not unless you are actually quoting that site for some encyclopedic purpose. Passing someone else's work off as your own is plagiarism. You can re-write the information in your own words, but don't make it sound like you are advertising the series. Things like "the fan-favorite series" and "maybe Illyria will!" are not really suitable prose for an encylopedia.  Paul  730 01:30, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
