[edit] Speedy deletion contested

Hey, hold on! I created this page in all good faith, mirroring the one here SMART_(Scottish_Business_Grant) and carefully taking information from the Northern Ireland Government page about investing in small businesses here [1] which links on from a Wikipedia page about Northern Ireland government agencies here List_of_Government_departments_and_agencies_in_Northern_Ireland - which if you spool down, you'll see is lacking any information on Invest NI at the moment. What did I do wrong? Why is it up for deletion?

Sure, it's got info on companies on it, but that's because that's precise the function of that government agency - to invest in small high tech companies.

Please tell me what's wrong and I'll correct. Penguin2006 01:50, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

The whole article itself needs a re-write, it is very spam sounding, very much sounds like what/how the company itself would write it. FamicomJL 01:52, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply Famicom. But it's not a company! It's a page about a British government department! Isn't there a difference? I agree if what I wrote was for a commercial company, it would be spammy. But this is a neutral government agency - and I just copied what the Scottish SMART award page did ie take stuff from the government website, and link it to the government online pages, some company sites who got their tech awards and a few newspaper articles. If it was okay for the Scottish entry, why is there a problem with mine? Penguin2006 02:11, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Wait a minute, isn't that copyvio? Or are you saying that you took stuff and re-wrote it? Or are you saying you (actually, the Scottish wiki entry) took the sentences word for word out of the site? And even though it's not a company (My mistake), it IS very spammish sounding, as if someone from there wrote it. I'll take out the speedy deletion template, but am adding a cleanup tag. FamicomJL 02:14, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I used the Scottish page's template and structure, because I thought it was a good one. Then I essentially used the government site's wording, although I changed it a bit - taking out the 'excellence's and 'striving for achievement' and all that hyperbole and rearranging sentences to fit my form - now you're making me unsure if that tinkering was enough for copyvio. I'll rewrite it, then. Make it less flowery. I'll do that now, with an eye on making it a lot less neutral. This is the first entry I've ever had trouble on! I usually write ones to do with art or food. Thank you very much for your help. Penguin2006 02:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I did my rewrite. Was that okay? If not, please say exactly what's wrong and I'll try again. Thanks again for your help. I think I'm a bit out of practice and just got a bit lazy there - and I'm still not sure exactly what in-line citations are. Does that mean those that take you zippity zip to the reference within a page? I can't figure out how to do those yet. Penguin2006 03:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I'll try and fix the citations. Everything else looks fine. FamicomJL 03:23, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! You've been really helpful. It's definitely a clearer article now, I see that. I'm off to link it to the other Northern Ireland government pages. Oh, and since it was unclear that it was about a government agency, I tried to make it really clear. Thanks for pointing that out. Penguin2006 03:25, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
No problem, and fixed the citations. FamicomJL 03:36, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I saw. They look really nice. I found the page where it tells you how to do that. Citing sources I'll have to practice. Thanks again. Penguin2006 03:39, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
