Smart Communications is the wholly-owned mobile phone subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT). With over 30 million subscribers on its GSM network as of end-December 2007, equivalent to approximately half of the Philippine cellular market share. It operates a nationwide cellular network and a satellite phone service. It also has the most extensive and modern digital communications GSM network and infrastructure in the country, covering over 99 percent of the population. As of end-June 2007, Smart’s GSM network consists of 100 switches and 100,000 base stations, over 2 of which are equipped with wireless broadband capability. Smart also has over 23 3G base stations nationwide. PLDT reported at the end of April 2008, that its mobile phone subscriber base reached more than 32 million, combining Smart and Talk N' Text subscribers, and its wireless service revenues grew 8% to P 22.5 billion.[1]
On April 20, 2008, Smart Communications recently updated its logo, changing with the new, shortened letter 'S', new letter 'A', and a new line below the logo.

On March 1, 2008, Smart Communications released Smart Bro Prepaid which has a on-time payment that costs P4,500. It includes the modem, but with a sim, a P30 pre-loaded into the sim, and more. |
