Smart & Final

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Smart & Final is a Los Angeles based North American business founded in 1871 as "Hellman, Haas & Co.", which later changed its name to "Haas, Baruch & Co.", becoming "Smart & Final" in 1953. It deals in bulk food, beverages of all kinds, restaurant supplies, and cleaning products. Many of their customers operate independent restaurants or catering businesses.

The company has expanded to 235+ stores in the Western US and Northern Mexico.[1]

The company also markets itself to consumers with frequent radio advertising as "The Smarter, Faster Warehouse Store", capitalizing on its alternative to the long checkout lines often found in large warehouse stores. With consumers, the business markets itself as the best choice for party and picnic supplies for home, office, or church.

Smart & Final's house brand is "Iris", a name which dates back to 1885. [2]

The name of the company comes from Jim Smart and Hildane Final of Santa Ana, who bought Haas, Baruch & Co. in 1953.

The company was acquired by Apollo Management in 2007.
