Smardale railway station

Smardale railway station was situated on the South Durham & Lancashire Union Railway between Tebay and Kirkby Stephen East. It served the villages of Smardale and Waitby. The station opened to passenger traffic on 8th August 1861, and closed on 1st December 1952.
It also closed temporarily during the First World War, from 20th September 1915, reopening on 1st November 1919
