It was the second SM Supermall built by Chinese-Filipino tycoon Henry Sy Sr. The term Centerpoint refers that the mall is located between the cities of Manila, San Juan and Quezon City. The SM Centerpoint was now changed to SM City Sta. Mesa in mid-May 2006, commemorating SM Sta. Mesa's 16th Anniversary.
