[edit] Vandalism?
Dear Sir,
I've never used wikipedia to edit anything and I've only JUST signed a new account to try to find out why I can't view the pages. It shows that my IP was involved in some sort of vandalism.. I've no idea how it happened but I can assure you that I've never done anything to ruin the integrity of wikipedia.
If you can, would you please take away the ban that is on me?
Many thanks and best regards, Johann —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slowth (talk • contribs) 17:32, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Johann / Slowth. When a shared IP address is used for serious vandalism, Wikipedia must block it as soon as possible to retain integrity. As such, previous users on that IP address are often asked to take out individual accounts. This has the benefit - PROVIDING the accounts are not compromoised - that the users can build individual reputations for their editing. i.e. you are separated from your colleagues whom you say are vandalising. As time goes by, provided your editing is fine, then your username will build a good reputation and be easily distinguished from others operating out of the same IP address / building / organisation. Good luck!! Ian Cairns 18:56, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

- Johann - Please can you let me know which IP address you are using? I have no easy way of identifying this from your new Username. It is possible that I may have autoblocked all users using that IP address. I don't usually do this - but I may have done by accident. It is usually straightforward to adjust the block to allow your Slowth user to edit again. Thanks, Ian Cairns 10:17, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
