Hey slowpoke. Where'd you get your info for 262,414,&920? Would you be interested in writing 608 and 715 as well? Or have any pointers on where I should go to find info on them? Tomer TALK 17:28, July 24, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Re: Talk:2005 in NASCAR
Thanks for the understanding, I defintely can give a first-hand account of the Brickyard 400, I'm hoping Tony Stewart can pull off the big win. Thanks again, Srcrowl 07:15, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

- Hey, just got back from the race in Indy. It was pretty sweet watching Stewart pull off the victory, and you predicted right, they brought him a ladder. Too bad for Rusty, seems like after that bad qualification--they couldn't pull it together. Srcrowl 06:18, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Usertalk:edgester
Thanks for the welcome.
I have tons more Nascar Photos.
I attended the Coca-cola 600 and UAW-GM 500 for the past two years.
I have garage photos from Rousch, Hendrick, and MBV/MB2. I live in Charlotte, NC. The Hendrick, Rousch, and MBV shops are 15 minutes from my house.
[edit] Re: /GP updates
Say, I like what you've been doing with the GP updates effort to standardize the race reports! Since you started this, do you mind if I help out, and edit your page to reflect said progress? (I don't see the point in duplicating efforts, but at the same time, it is your name space, and I would think it rude to edit without permission) lemme know, and keep up the great work! -slowpokeiv 14:59, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
- absolutely, go for your life. i started doing it when i was on holidays from uni, but i'm not anymore so progress is obviously a lot slower... i would appreciate any help i could get! Thanks AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:16, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Firman
While I try to find something more concerete, I refer you to any end-of-race FIA-placed ranking data on any of the 14 from 16 races he competed in in 2003, which displayed the Irish tricolour and IRL for nationality. During 2003, the FIA's list of drivers also had him down as racing under an Irish licence, and I may be able to find this through archive.org --Kiand 11:37, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- http://www.fia.com/resources/documents/2068891188__ESP_Class_2003.pdf and every other FIA race classification document in the 2003 archive has "IRL". Think thats concerete enough to show that he used an Irish superlicence in those seasons. Although they do have Eddie Irvine down as GBR despite an Irish superlicence - thats for political reasons... --Kiand 11:44, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- I think he proved it a bit more two days ago, eh :) --Kiand 08:14, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 2005 USA-Race
DNS stands for when a car does not take a a race start. Makes sense. By having Ret listed that mean the driver has actually started in that race and will count a race starts towards the driver race start tally.. The formation lap does not count as a lap at all as it is not added towards the race classification. For when does a driver 'start' a Grand Prix? To my mind he does so only if he is on the grid when the flag drops or light goes green at the final start. Should a driver have failed to compete the formation lap, for instance (as was the case with Prost at Imola in 1991), he cannot truly be said to have started the race. In the case of restarted events such as the British GP in 1986, poor Jacques Laffite certainly did start the race, but this was declared null and void and he was not presented to take the restart, which is the only one that counts. For true official race results is best to get them off www.forix.com as they receive their race results from the officials. Yes I know formula1.com is official but not 100% official in statistics. If you decide to leave it as Ret then you must give all the drivers a race start count!
I have spend hours in researching and asking many F1 statistician who are famous and know more on Grand Prix. All the statisian I have contacted and got back told me it is actually DNS not Ret, they also have mention the formula1.com is not very accurate with their race results. The formula1.com is incorrect as listing as ret instead of DNS for 2005-USA. This were the responses from the following people. Renowned F1 statistians, like David Hayhoe or Autosport's Peter Higham agree that all Michelin drivers were DNS in 2005-USA, but consider a RET if a driver didn't made a re-start, for example. That was the common view in the past - no contemporary source listed Lauda as a DNS in 1976-Germany - and they simply ignore the current "null and void" FIA rule. I totally agree to change it as DNS not Ret as they didn't take part on the first lap.
Here is a intersting fact. Button will start his 100th race start in the 2005-China race. But according to wikipedia when doing the math by adding all Button race starts it would be his 101st race start in China as Button has been listed as Ret instead of DNS for this year 2005-USA race. Does this make sense to you. That means wikipedia will have an extra race start for all the drivers who have no started in the 2005 USA race have an extra race start which wouldn't be official to the drivers stats.
I am trying to help you all to have accurate data on Formula 1 on wikipedia. I DO beleive the formula1.com site doesn't not give out accurate race classifications. As I have been involved with FORIX and autosport.com for many years as my job is to look for incorrect data on their server. Andreas 04 October 09:36
- I had the same issue with Ralph Firman but I simple check on his previous career before F1 that he was always has and will always race under the Irish Flag as you can see by looking on all the race cars that he raced in had Irish flags on them as his nationality. Now back to the 2005 USA race, it will screw up all the michlelin runners race starts on wikipedia as the guys on wikipedia count the 2005 USA race as a race start. There have been races in the past that less than 12 cars actually have started a race in F1, or even fewer than 12. I have been correcting formula1.com on DNS in the past six months I am up to the year 1989 on their web site and they have accepted all the errors that I have pin pointed out for them. They make the correction and I am happy. I am not too far away when I reach to the 2005 USA GP on their web page, I already have been given the answer by FIA (which I am keepin it to myself until the season is over than we see who is right) and it won't be too long before I will ask the same question to formula1.com. Here are some samples on race starts for drivers --> Jacques Villeneuve is to make is his 150th race start in the 2005 Japan race if he takes the race start, but now according to wikipedia Villeneuve did start the 2005 USA race so that makes Villeneuve has already started his 150th race in the last grand prix at the Brazilian Grand Prix which is incorrect. As Villeneuve did not take part in the race start for the 2005 USA race. Jenson Button is to make is 100th race start in China but according to wikipedia it will be his 101st start in China as they also count him as a race starter. We will see if Villeneuve gets to slice a 150th Grand Prix cake in the nnext year if he does then wikipedia is wrong data on the 2005 USA race results. The reason I know so much on F1 history is because I read about it everyday since the age of 14, so that makes 11 years of F1 research. I hope I can get your support... [edit] copyright on pictures problem
Hi Slowpokiev - You mentioned to me that I need to get the copyrights on my pictures up to snuff and I'm trying to get that accomplished but having problems. I tried to upload over the other pictures but I think I just duplicated them. But onto the more trying part, I can't figure out what I'm suppose to be doing to the pictures. I've read alot of help docs but haven't gotten any closer. So here's what I'm doing, please correct my stupidity:
I'm going to the picture page - for example Image:Fort worth tech 013.jpg I'm selecting the pic from my computer I'm going to the drop down menu and selecting (PD) Self Made donate to public / release all rights Then of course I click on "upload file."
Yet still I'm getting the following: This image has no source information. This means that it has an unknown copyright status. Unless the copyright status is provided and a source is given, the image will be deleted seven days after this template was added. The uploader, {{{1}}}, has been notified by {{{2}}} on {{{3}}}.
Any suggestions? I'm also positive that I did the same when I originally uploaded the pictures. I'm feeling pretty stupid right now...
Thanks

Thanks a ton Pokie. I got the copyrights all taken care of I'm good to go. I didn't know where to find the {{pd-self}} code - that's what lost me and I also thought that the 'image source error' was coming from some admin feature elsewhere and not on the page itself, so I was expecting it to magically disappear :) Learning sucks! [edit] F1 flags & Eddie Irvine
Hi. You've added a lot of Republic of Ireland flags to represent Eddie Irvine. He is from Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Anyone born in N.I. can claim Irish citizenship but to my knowledge Irvine hasn't. Mark83 12:46, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me. I've already changed a few and will try my best to help change the rest. Mark83 16:31, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- One other small thing. I noticed in your edit summary you said he's from Great Britain. Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. The UK is GB and Northern Ireland. Its a minor thing, just to let you know as some people get really worked about it. Mark83 16:36, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, sorry about that. (and yes, I know how people get worked up about it...) GBR or GB would have been correct, Great Britian would be incorrect. (The full and correct term would be: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This Yank keeps making the mistake of shortening it...) -slowpokeiv 22:32, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] F1 portal featured article
The F1 portal (in which I assume you have some degree of interest, as your name is listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One) is intended to have a regular rotation of a 'featured article'. I've swapped a few in and out over the last couple of months, but I think it would be better if there were more of a community attempt at deciding this, proposals, votes, that kind of thing. So - why not pop over to Portal_talk:Formula_One#Suggestions_for_Featured_Article: and make a suggestion. Ta. 4u1e 00:37, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected articles on Portal:F1
Hello again.
I dropped notes round a while back to those who have listed themselves at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One to ask for suggestions for selected articles on portal:Formula One. There was a pretty good response, both in terms of how it might work and of articles suggested. Damon Hill came out with the most support and was brought up to Good Article standard after a lot of work by Skully Collins and others before going on as the F1 portal selected article a couple of weeks ago. It is now at Featured Article Candidates as a Featured Article candidate (why not drop by and see if you can help polish it further?).
Several people who responded to the original request suggested that a monthly or bi-weekly 'Selected Article' could act as a catalyst for an improvement drive to get more articles up to a higher standard. Although it wasn't quite what I had in mind when I started, this seemed to work pretty well for the Damon Hill article, so I've drafted up a process for doing this more regularly. See Portal_talk:Formula_One/Management_of_selected_articles for details. Essentially the suggestion is that we vote for an article to improve every couple of weeks and at the end of the improvement process the article goes on the portal as the new 'Selected Article'. I'd be grateful for any comments on how this might work - I'm sure some of you are more familiar with things 'Wiki' than me - as well as your votes for the next candidate (by 16 July).
You may also want to help with the article Gilles Villeneuve, which was the next most popular after Damon Hill. The idea is to try and get it up to GA standard by 16 July and then put it on the portal as the 'Selected Article'. I hope you can help! 4u1e 18:25, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Aarons499.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Aarons499.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 23:48, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Monaco Grand Prix
Hi. You voted for Monaco Grand Prix as the improvement candidate for the next F1 portal Selected Article. It was at the top of the pile as of 13 August so this is the one we'll be working on. Do you want to put up some suggestions at the talk page for what needs working on? See you there! --4u1e 20:13, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE: NASCAR Article
When I complained about the NASCAR article, the article was very "Cup centric" with little information about NASCAR itself, and plenty of information about Nextel Cup. That would be like the FIA article having 3 sections just for information about Formula 1 and nothing about WRC. After nothing got done after putting that on the discussion page, I took matters into my own hands, and reorganized most of the article myself. I moved some sections to the other articles, I moved some parts to other parts of the article, and some stuff had to go. I think the article has improved a lot since then. But I am considering moving the point system table from the Nextel Cup page to the NASCAR page, since NASCAR seems to use the same point system for every series. Mustang6172 05:12, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] UPDATE
Since September, I have moved the points information to the main NASCAR article, and the article is bloated. I used the Wikiproject:NASCAR discussion page to propose a new article that would split up the current one, but have only gotten one response (which was positive). You can find the details of my proposal here. My overall goal is to create something close to the Formula One Regulations article, but using non-series specific information reguarding NASCAR. [edit] 1997 European Grand Prix
At 01:25, 29 January 2006 you made a statement about eddie irvine. Edit summary: (Eddie Irvine is from Great Britain, not from Ireland) Where was he born, in Devon ? He is an Irish man born in Co. Down, Ireland but unfortunately a british subject. Do you not know great britain (england, scotland & wales) does not include the north of Ireland, the unitied kingdom does. Look at the British passport photo sometime. Culnacreann 20:08, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New NASCAR driver infobox
I like the new infobox you've created; it's nice to have one template we can use for all three major series. I do have a few questions, though.
- 1. Should we add stats for Busch and Truck to every single Cup driver, even if they only ran a few races in Busch or Truck? I point you to the Mark Martin article, where since he is well-established in Busch and (supposedly) moving to Truck, I've put all three. The infobox is absolutely huge, and I don't think that we should put every single stat in there.
- 2. Would it be possible to add IROC stats for NASCAR drivers to this box, or is that something we should save for an (as-yet undeveloped) IROC infobox?
- 3. How are we going to do the templates for drivers like Juan Pablo Montoya, who are well-established in F1 (or another series) and are moving to Cup? Should we just add the Cup template before/after the F1 template, or should we create some sort of combination template in conjunction with WikiProject Formula One and WikiProject IROC?
- 4. Should we add stats for the Canadian Tire Series to this infobox?
- 5. Dumb question: Is there an easier way to do a numbered list than the way I'm doing this? :p
Again, kudos for creating the new infobox! -- DiegoTehMexican 03:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
First off, thanks. Appreciate the comments, and good questions, all of them. In response:
- Yes, I think we should add stats for all three. It has been determinied that even one start in any Premeire series is notable, and once a driver retires, the X races in Y years line should speak for itself.
- I was thinking about the same thing myself, but hadn't decided how to format said stats. (Top ten means nothing, as well as first/last race doesn't mean as much...) Probably a better place to bring it up is in the IROC WP, but my opinion: Yes.
- That's an even better, albeit rarer question. I'm sure there are more, but I can only think on the one major crossover between NASCAR and F1, and only a few more IROC <-> F1 drivers. I think those should be handled on a case by case basis, with a decent discussion as to which series stats comes first. (I would not want to start anything even remotely saying "my racing series is better than yours" or the like.)
- Is the Canadian Tire Series on the same professional level as NEXTEL Cup? If so, then we should probably consider it. If not, then probably not.
- See the source code for my reply. :)
-slowpokeiv 00:43, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
I suppose I should've said something about this before I started making changes - the Previous Year variable needs to be different for each series - many drivers don't run in the same series year after year, and it would makes the previous position variable incorrect. -- DiegoTehMexican 15:44, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, good point. I was thinking that only if the driver competed in the previous year should it be used, thereby removing the need for multiple variables. However, in the interest of open mindedness, and to not messup the currently used versions, I have made a quick fix. The way it is now (02:10, 12 October 2006 (UTC)) setup, prev_SERIES_year will be seperate years if explicitly called. If not, it will default to the "Previous_Year" value. (If both not present, but one of the prev_SERIES_pos is, then we're in trouble.) -slowpokeiv 02:10, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Autoclub500 logo.jpg
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Autoclub500 logo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Chevy Rock and Roll 400.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Chevy Rock and Roll 400.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:32, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject IROC
You are listed as a member of WikiProject IROC. The WikiProject was recently marked as inactive. I have proposed either closing the WikiProject, broadening its scope to all North American or American stock cars, or changing it to become a taskforce under its parent Wikiproject WikiProject Motorsport. Please comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject IROC#Inactive.2C direction to go. You have one week to reply. Royalbroil 03:18, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Talk:Phoenix circuit
Another editor has added the {{prod}}
template to the article Talk:Phoenix circuit, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 04:00, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
