A rather obvious omission from this article is the result of the debate. It's ostensibly been raging for more than 30 years - surely someone has an answer now? Or, more likely, at least derived some "rules of thumb" from the assorted experiments that took place in the wake of this debate. I wouldn't expect anything entirely cut-and-dried from ecology!
