Slovakia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest three times, débuting in 1994 (after failing to qualify for the contest in 1993) and leaving the contest in 1998. In the three finals Slovakia had a best position of 18th, and was forced to miss a year after each contest. The country opted to not return for the 2000 contest.

STV programme director - Peter Lipták, said on 11 May 2006 that STV would like to participate in the 2008 contest, but due to a lack of financial funds Slovakia did not take part in the contest.[1] SVT have now stated that they are currently considering an entry for the 2009 contest.[2]
