From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SLIP-COAT is the generic name of a series of functional waterbased coatings used to coat EPDM (both dense and sponge), PU-RIM, Vyram, TPE and SEBS-TPE, PE, flexible PVC, nitrile rubber, Santoprene, PP and silicone. The coatings provide resistance to UV, chemicals, and abrasion, as well as reduce the coefficient of friction, increasing the hydrophobicity, and greatly decrease the noise generated when coated parts move against a mating surface, create smooth or textured surfaces, allow design commonality between various weatherseals. The coating is frequently used to coat automotive weatherstripping (seals). These coatings can be found on vehicles made by all North American original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), most European OEMs and some others. For example the SLIP-COAT can be found on a Bugati (one of the most expesive production vehicles), many of the North American pickup trucks that are produced in medium volume but are big money makers for the OEMs, many of the lower priced North American vehicles produced in high volume, and most sunroofs found on vehicles made by European OEMs.
