The first of these programs is Peer Mediation, which the students take part in to resolve conflicts between one another in a peaceful, encouraging way. This teaches important conflict resolution skills and helps to keep the suspension rate at the school very low.

There are two programs to help the community and troubled children at Sligo Middle School. One is the School Community Action Team (SCAT), which is designed to increase knowledge and awareness of drugs and alcohol, and in doing so lowering the usage by students and community members. This group is made up of students, teachers, and the community. The second group is known as Student Assistant Program (SAP) and it focuses on "at-risk-students" who need additional help to from counseling groups. This is to help them become productive citizens.

A program that is held during school hours for the troubled students is known as the Alternative Structured Classroom. Students who are troublemakers in class are sent to In School Suspension where they discuss the nature of their wrongdoing and are expected to change their behavior before they are allowed to return to class. These are some of the many programs Sligo Middle School Runs.
