The tenth studio album of all original material by Slayer will be recorded in early 2008 and released later that year.[1] According to an interview with vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, the follow-up to 2006's highly acclaimed Christ Illusion could be Slayer's last recording with long-time producer Rick Rubin, who has been working with the band since 1986's Reign in Blood (although Matt Hyde and Josh Abraham stepped in as producers on God Hates Us All and Christ Illusion).
The new release will also mark the second time Slayer recorded an album with the original line-up since drummer Dave Lombardo's departure after the release of 1990's Seasons in the Abyss.
[edit] Background information
When asked if the band were planning on writing a tenth studio album, Araya replied:
“ |
It's actually pretty strenuous. That's why I don't see it going any further than a certain point in time. We have one more record to do, which is our deal with [Rick] Rubin, and we'll have to sit down and discuss the future. But I can't really see myself doing this at a later age. |

Guitarist Jeff Hanneman told Yebo TV that he had written three new songs for the album. He explains:
“ |
I've got, like, probably about three songs started. I think we'll probably just take a couple of months off and then start writing. |

In December 2007, Araya stated that Slayer are expected to record the new album after the Christ Illusion tour ends. He explains:
“ |
I'm excited to see where the new music will go, how it's going to sound, what the total writing and recording experience will be like. I'm sure it will be like the one for Christ Illusion - great! |
