SlamNation is a documentary film by director Paul Devlin. The film follows the National Poetry Slam in Portland, Oregon. SlamNation features performances by Saul Williams, Beau Sia, muMs, Taylor Mali, Jessica Care Moore, Marc Smith and many more. SlamNation is one of the first films to document the art and competition of slam poetry - a spoken word competition where judges, randomly chosen from the audience, score poets on a scale from one to ten - the poet with the highest score at the end of the evening wins. The audience participation and the democratic nature of the event (often signing up is all that is required to perform at a local venue) have helped the Slam catch on across the country.
