A Slavist is a scholar studying any aspect (language, literature, culture, history, society etc.) of any of the Slavic-speaking countries. The major Slavic languages currently extant include Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian (East Slavic); Polish, Czech, Slovak (West Slavic) and Bulgarian, Slovene, Macedonian, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, Montenegrin (South Slavic).
