[edit] Daylight saving time image

Re the image you recently deleted from Daylight saving time; could you please respond at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images/2008 April 19 #Image:Time-differences-brz-us.png? I'll watch there. Thanks. Eubulides (talk) 04:36, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

The contributor verified that they are the copyright holder of the website in question, so he has the right to place the image into the public domain. Can you please remove the pui tag from Image:Time-differences-brz-us.png? Thanks. Eubulides (talk) 06:51, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm lost. Can you please follow up again on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images/2008 April 19 #Image:Time-differences-brz-us.png? I left details about why I'm lost there. Thanks. Eubulides (talk) 07:24, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More Bot attacks

HELP! I've been under attack by the bot for days, I fixed at least ten images the other night and removed them from my talk page, As soon as it was done it started on me again! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:25, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

For being the fastest and nicest skiier on the web

250,000 + between us? That is friggin awesome. Ah you know why I am getting so many bot calls don't you. A year and a half ago I started workin through Argentine films beginning with A and obviouslt the bot its going through A. Unfortunately at that time I wasn't aware of some of the bot "policies". Ut does my head in logging in a seeing fifty images on my talk page! P.S. do you reckon I should accept adminship? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 09:49, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I've moved them to User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Friggin images in need of saving. 44kb of them!!! Oh I can see you;ve done loads already thanks for that. Once done can you help remove them from the list.? Once they are done they can de rmeoved from the "friggin list"! Its not good having that fired at you. The early days are coming back to haunt me ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:42, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Image:SofíaBozán.jpg was deleted. Argentine photos pre 1988 or public domain if not taken from a film. So it should be fixed with a public domain tag ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:46, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Cheers. Its mainly going to be those Argentine films!! If the FritzBot gets approval to start adding the missing 1.5 million places I will be returning to concentrating on film again like the old days. Italian, French and Hong Kong cinema in particular!!! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 09:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] re: Image:Golem of It!.jpg

I have added a rationale for this image. Is this sufficient for stopping the deletion of this image? Let me know--Drboisclair (talk) 16:40, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate how you in your work are making sure that this website follow the best standards of law and equity. I think that sometimes when some of us download we do not read the instructions well enough. This is what "juried websites" and "quality control" are all about. Thanks.--Drboisclair (talk) 22:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] T'was okay to delete "Image:OLPC guitar probe coil 3b.jpg"

Bill here: I was having problems with uploading files to the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) wiki, so I tried an upload to wikipedia, where obviously it worked just fine. But then I realized I couldn't get rid of it -- in fact, that's a question I have: how does one go about deleting such things -- perhaps an image is no longer necessary and its author deems it should be deleted. (This image was/is original work, and I could have stuck a GNU on it, but it wouldn't have a "home" so it had to go no matter what.) Sorry for the bother. [edit] Image:Heathrow Terminals After.png

Hi. I have noticed that you deleted the image Image:Heathrow Terminals After.png on 19 February 2008 claiming that the image lacked copyright information. Would it be possible for the image to be restored if I can supply the source information? The image diagram itself was self made by User:Amistry.mistry using an edition of airports magazine as the source of information of which I will try and find the issue number. The image was also quite a useful diagram to illustrate the article London Heathrow airport. Thanks very much. Tbo 157(talk) 22:16, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring the image. I have provided the relevant summary information. Can you check if it is ok? I don't think it needs a fair use summary as it was entirely self made by the user specified using the source mentioned for information only. Thanks very much. Tbo 157(talk) 12:06, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Image:New pelion hut view.jpg

Hi, I'm wondering why this was deleted. I know it was tagged for CSD:I4, but it appears that it did have a valid licesens and source. Am I missing something? --Selket Talk 03:29, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Image:River_Roads_Logo_Crisp_1.png

If you can , I would advise that you read the copyright entry for the image one more time and carefully note the meanings of the words and phrases in the entry . I often find this necessary when reading repetitive lists and such . I assume from your many language certifications that the issue is a voluntary failure to read the entry and not an inability . Either way , I thank you for your attentiveness , but I must protest your obtrusiveness . Although you may think that you are providing an important service for all of us by deleting our images , I assure you that I am perfectly capable of deleting images that I think need to be deleted and have no need of your help . I am sure that you have other opportunities that could occupy your time much more productively than indiscriminately deleting images and encourage you to explore those . If not , I have a large volume of scanning work ( of public domain content , of course ) that requires the level of particularity that you seem to possess . Contact me .

--Frank.trampe (talk) 05:50, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Looking at your talk pages , I see that you are already well occupied by non-deletion-related tasks and have no need of additional work . Although I see from some of the other talk entries that some users clearly have no grasp of Wikipedia's copyright rules and need some guidance , I consider myself a good copyright soldier . I encourage you to entrust the deletion of my images to me so that you can focus more upon other more important work , like Image:Untitled1.JPG , whose necessity makes an interesting statement about average intelligence levels .

[edit] Back to the Future III

Arrgh this article has lost all its images. Perhaps restore the most useful ones? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I loved that film. As you know I am a huge western fan anyway but that combined with the sci-fi elements and general good humor is fun. Critically it probably wasn't exactly much to shout about, but it isn't intended to be the greatest shot film of all time. Great fun. I met Christopher Lloyd when I was in Santa Monica back in 1997 when they were filming on the pier for My Favourite Martian. June 1997 and it wasn't released until 1999! Have some footage of him on video cam but no photos. Incidentally i cropped the image we have of him now but we could do one of him when he was in his prime. Great guy ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:16, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] GBMC Update

Curious why GBMC logo and hospital images were deleted? What guidelines did the uploaded images not meet?

[edit] Image Deletion

As for deleting images , one can simply change the copyright status to logo and remove its references . It disappears very quickly ( about one week , I think ) .

I have the entire River Roads collection . There are no branding transfer contracts . Further , there is no record of any copyright of the branding .

In terms of ownership , all I really have are the paper copies of the branding and verbal agreements from the past two owners that I get what is roughly defined as the River Roads stuff . I can send in a ticket , but it seems to add little value unless I get disclaimers from all of the past owners and the design firm . I have addresses for all of them ( although the most recent owner recently closed its office due to some budget problems ) . I don't want to spend my summer securing the disclaimers , though , so I'll just submit the ticket .

[edit] Image Taggers

I also have a concern about a particular image crawler ( I can't recall which one . ) that puts warning flags on images marked as « Used with permission » or something similar even if they have other tags , like « logo » or « fair use » or something similar . It seems that having an extra permission mode ought not to make an image less suitable for display . Do you know which crawler this is ?

--Frank.trampe (talk) 05:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re : Image Deletion

Back on the subject of the River Roads logo , I fail to see why copyrighted logos for other entities ( airlines , schools , and such ) are fair game for inclusion even in absence of permission but copyrighted logos of shopping malls are not . It seems that it still ought to fall under the logo rules . —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frank.trampe (talkcontribs) 05:35, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re-reviewing article

Hello! Sorry to bother, but you had reviewed an article that I began, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris (film), and you rated it as a stub-class offering for the WikiProject Films effort. Since then, the article has been substantially expanded. If your schedule allows, I would ask if you could please return to the article and review it again, since it outgrew its stub origins. Thank you very much. Ecoleetage (talk) 13:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello again. I think you left the same message from my Talk Page on the Jacques Brel page. Ecoleetage (talk) 17:56, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for your helpful feedback. Sadly (for me, at least), the article didn't make the WP:GA grade at this time. But I'll give it another go and see what happens. I appreciate your input. Be well. Ecoleetage (talk) 18:23, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dejima pic

[edit] Cropped/Altered public domain images

Hi, I have a question regarding the correct tag to use when uploading images here or on commons. If I crop or alter a PD image, say by chopping one player out of a 1960s Argentine football squad photo and altering the colouration. Can I use the{{self}} tag? The reason I ask is that I am unsure whether my work in altering the PD image makes it at least partly my own work. Cheers EP 11:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image deletion

Sorry to be another one of those folks, but, "you deleted my image" - Image:Kips bay.jpg. I was wondering - is there any recourse for me on this? I found the NYPL link on Wikipedia:Public_domain_image_resources, and I did actually call the permissions desk of the library, where I was verbally granted permission to use this image on Wikipedia. Did I tag improperly? Is this not a valid way to "earn" permission to use an image? I'm admittedly a bit naive on this front, but I'd really like to use this image for Landing at Kip's Bay (for obvious reasons). Thanks for any help you can give. Tan | 39 16:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Khasekhemwy image is Copyright free

Dear Sir, The image of Khasekhemwy which you deleted was copyright free: [1] All images from Egypt archive are copyright free as its authors says: [2] Don't you read the information before you delete the picture.

Secondly, what is the correct license for a copyright free image. Can you please let me know? Leoboudv (talk) 01:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I have never uploaded an image to Wikicommons in my life. I am an amateur. So, I asked a friend to do it from this copyright free web site and was appalled when it was speedily deleted by you. So, for copyright free images, the license is
Creative Commons: Some Rights Reserved
BYSA
This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 License.

Attribution: Jon Bodsworth at http://www.egyptarchive.co.uk/html/contact.html

and it will fall under a Fair use rationale? Am I reading you right. You know, Khasekhemwy was a powerful pharaoh of Egypt--he was important--and right now there is no image for his article at all. Leoboudv (talk) 01:46, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

I was under the impression that Egyptarchive images could have a simple clear tag. But I don't know its correct license. Leoboudv (talk) 01:49, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP:HAU

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:41, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello,

I'm assisting Baron Wolman, Rolling Stone Magazine's first Chief Photographer, set up his Wikipedia page. We recently updated his bio and I noticed that a photograph of Baron, taken by his assistant, had been removed for "possible copyright violation". I have uploaded this file again and have added a copyright credit. Feel free to check it out & let me know if anything additional is needed. You can contact me at tim@hyperarts.com.

[edit] El Norte (film)

Hello once again. I'm having a problem with this film as there seems to be a vandal removing the fair use image. I think it's time we took more proactive steps, if possible. Thx. Luigibob (talk) 23:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Mr. Skier. Your are right about the film is not high profile and that is incredible. It is probably the most touching film about the plight of undocumented immigrants in the USA ever made (not just my POV, but Roger Ebert's as well). I've traded emails with the producer and writer of the film in the past, Anna Thomas, and she mentioned there were a few minor errors in her article, which I also wrote, and she said she'd get back to me. I've nugged her once but no avail. Needless to say, even though I am a huge fan of the film and the producers, my articles, in my opinion, are neutral. By the by, I had a bad week in Wiki. I got into a little spats with a couple of Wikipedians...one is completely over (see Amarcord talk page)...the other was just weird...he hated that I toched his article.....I let it go because it not a genre or film that I care about....as SilkyTork says, "There are a lot of articles out there to work on." I still love Wiki and the nice people I meet. I hope you had fun on your vacation! Your Wiki friend -- Luigibob (talk) 03:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Page deletion/move

Hi. I see that you have been moving pages of the form "X (disambiguation)" to "X". Please check first that "X" redirects to "X (disambiguation)". If it does not, it is not appropriate to delete X and move the dab page in its place (or at least this should not be done without some thought.) You moved Ray tracing (disambiguation) to Ray tracing. The dab page was in fact surplus—nothing linked to it, because it did not comply with the guidelines (there were only two entries). Ray tracing redirected, as appropriate, to one of the two relevant articles. I fixed this. You might want to see if there was anything useful on the talk page you deleted.--Srleffler (talk) 06:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you moved Swaminarayan (disambiguation) to Swaminarayan today. I undid this because Swaminarayan redirects to the most common use, Sahajanand Swami (Lord Swaminarayan). The dab page is for purposes related to Swaminarayan, whiles the basis for Swaminarayan is the deity, so it redirects there. Around The GlobeContact 12:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Syncope (disambiguation)

Skier, I think this is a mistake to convert the Syncope (disambiguation) page to a redirect and rename it Syncope. First we cannot have a disambiguation page masquerading as a redirect page. Second the Syncope page does not deal with the subject matter, it only disambiguates. I think that this needs to be reverted. This sort of thing needs discusssion before it is executed, perhaps we can revert it and mark it for disussion. Ex nihil (talk) 08:09, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Temporary userpages

May I ask that, instead of deleting old user talk pages, you would simply remove the warning? It makes it difficult to trace the history of warnings/etc for sockpuppets and unblock requests, something which makes the process quite difficult, and which happens with surprising frequency.
