A "level 2" heading is one with a pair of equal signs on each side. It's the highest level used in articles. If you enter "level 1" headings they will work but you'd be wrong to do so.

Level 2 and level 3 are very common in articles. Level 4 is less common; Level 5 and 6 are not used. Level 3 and 4 are sometimes called "Subsection Headings".

Next, let's italicize some text by putting two apostrophes on each side. Italicizing text is used for the name of a newspaper or a magazine; it's almost never used in articles for emphasis, because emphasis isn't the netrual point of view that Wikipdia strives for.
