[edit] About Me
My userboxes cover pretty much all you need to know about me. A couple things that they don't:
- In the "Music" section of my userboxes page, the one about Beethoven needs to be emphasized hugely. I can't get enough of his music, especially from the early and middle periods. Some of my favorite works of his include:
- Nearly all of the violin sonatas, especially Nos. 3 and 9.
- The "Emperor" Concerto.
- All the symphonies except for Nos. 1, 2, and 8.
- The Opus 10 piano sonatas (Nos. 5, 6, and 7), along with the 11th and 13th, "Quasi una fantasia."
- Other music I like:
- Johann Sebastian Bach
- Barenaked Ladies
- Broadway generally
- Dave Brubeck Quartet
- Frédéric Chopin
- Eric Clapton
- Chick Corea
- Earth, Wind & Fire
- George Gershwin
- HaDag Nachash
- Billy Joel
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
- Queen
- Sergei Rachmaninov
- Santana
- Brian Setzer
- Simon & Garfunkel
- Paul Simon
- Smash Mouth
- Subliminal
- James Taylor
- I have the "he-0" tag in Babel because I don't speak Hebrew, and I really want to - in fact, I harbor a certain amount of guilt for presenting myself as a progressive Jew when I don't even speak the language.
- The musical Spring Awakening changed my life. I created the userbox for it, because there wasn't one already. If you live within driving distance of Manhattan, or if the upcoming tour is coming to a city near you, go see it.
- I am an all-around Philly sports fan, but the only team that I follow regularly these days is the Birds. Given this, it may seem odd that I was very happy that the Giants won the Super Bowl, since the Giants have a historic rivalry with the Birds. However, I consider the Pats to be the bad guys of the NFL - what the Cowboys were a few years back. No one likes the Pats, except for people who live in the Boston metropolitan area. I firmly believe that they had it coming, simply by virtue of the fact that they were playing in Super Bowl XLII.
- It seems that all the userboxes in the "Books" section of that page are for kids' books. This isn't to say that they aren't worth reading, because they are, but I should mention that I'm a fan of other material as well.
- The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy
- America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart
- A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking
- Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
- And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding
- I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert
- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
- Other movies that I like (for which there are no userboxes):
- Chicago. I believe that this film is as close to perfect as it is possible to come in the entire medium.
- A Few Good Men
- Wag the Dog
- History of the World, Part I
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
- Good Night, and Good Luck.
- Rent
- An Inconvenient Truth
- Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
- Dead Poets Society
