Skirmish of the Berlin Schloss
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Skirmish of the Berlin Schloss was a small skirmish between the Communist Revolutionary Volksmarine unit and a regular German army unit on 24 December 1918. The Volksmarine unit under Lt. Dorrenbach seized the Imperial castle and stables and defeated a Reichswehr unit sent to dislodge them.
The victory of the Communist over a regular army unit caused Major Kurt von Schleicher to search for alternative means to quell Communist and Socialist uprisings and revolts and resulted in the formation of the Freikorps.
