Skimmia japonica is a shrub. popularly cultvated as an ornamental plant grown in gardens and parks. Its flower can be cream-yellow to white. The fruit are small round berries can range from purple to red. It can toerated frost and droughts. It has been hybordise with Skimmia anquetilia to create Skimmia × confusa. It is suitable to make Bonsai. This species is native to Japan. It is also grown in Chinese gardens. This species contain many cultivars.
