Talk:Skaneateles (village), New York
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oh Christ, some freaking townie made the whole article into a giant ad. Skaneateles is opressive enough to have had to live in; why did they have to spread their smarminess all over wikipedia like so much tartar sauce? Hell, that crap just has to go. Nothing written in that style belongs anywhere near Wikipedia, and if there's going to be a "community overview" section it needs complete rewrite coming from a different premise. If anyone cares to write it or try to reform the old thing go ahead, but having something up of such low quality is shameful. I also removed two pictures because they streched the page vertically, and weren't even pictures of the village of Skaneateles, but rather the the town of Skaneateles, where I moved the images. Furthermore, I was forced to remove the history section, as it is, by its own admission, plagarized from Persons, Places and Things In the Finger Lakes Region by Emerson Klees, a copyrighted book currently still being sold.
Seriously, Skan-town, stop effing up Wikipedia.

The author of the article about Skaneateles offers a pronunciation: Skan-ee-atlas. It's close, but not really the way the locals say it. Think of an emaciated strong man: Skinny Atlas. Now you're talking Central New Yorkese.

Having grown up there, I felt compelled to make the correction. A somewhat forgivable error - even folks from Syracuse often get it wrong.

- Folks, please settle down and stop inserting and erasing large blocks of text. True, some was rather commercial, but still contained useful information for the article. Thanks, Stepp-Wulf 01:04, 30 November 2006 (UTC).
- There are many fine accommodations for visitors and places to dine, so don't mention any in particular, unless ALL are represented. Doug's Fish Fry may be a local institution, but what about the Giverny at Mirbeau?

Well, I've had a go at tidying this up a little - tightening up the text, moving some external links up into the text to give them context, removing external links for things that have their own WP pages and removing some of the "tourist attraction" nature of the article. I'm still not 100% happy with it, but I hope most feel it's better this way. -- Alucard (Dr.) | Talk 22:36, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
