A Ska relief is a musical term which labels the sudden change from a punk guitar riff to the upstroke guitar ska riff. Usually, a ska relief is found in third wave ska music, in songs from bands like Sublime, Less than Jake, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Planet Smashers etc.
For a more precise example, the song titled seed from Sublime has many ska reliefs. The first ska relief in the song would be the first riff change (at about 9 seconds in the song).
