[edit] Player list page

Hi Sjorford - I'm making a subpage with a list of football players by country. Since you've already done something like that (on a rather bigger scale though!), I was just wondering if you could tell me if there is another way of getting the lists other than copy-paste from the respective category pages. Thanks. Aabha (talk) 13:17, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] < and > xml codes

I created them because I tried to look up the codes on wikipedia and didn't see anything, so... If I looked for the page, someone else might, so it might add some value to wikipedia. In other words, why not? Disambig pages are cheap. --Quasipalm 14:40, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

I didn't realize that they wouldn't come up through search; I usually bypass search and go directly for the URL myself, which is how I came to the page to begin with. I still think they are harmless at least and potentially useful to someone at best; but if you want to put up an AfD, that's fine. --Quasipalm 19:08, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Michael Jackson move

I'm not really sure this does need to be moved, and it certainly shouldn't be moved without discussion at Wikipedia:Requested moves first. sjorford (talk) 22:13, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply. I thought that the article needed to be moved as it would be more recognisable to the readers; there are over 15 "Michael Jacksons" on Wikipedia and this would set apart the "entertainer" from the "actor" or the "politician" etc (Please see: Wikipedia:naming conventions (precision)). The name would be similar to other artists with popular names (like Madonna's, whose page was renamed Madonna (entertainer) just to distinguish her from the other Madonna/Mary, Seal (musician) whose page is named as such to distinguished the person from Seal (device), Seal (1991 album) and so fourth.
Lastly, you stated that it should not be moved without discussion at Wikipedia:Requested moves, but that page is only for moves that require Admins or would otherwise prove controversial. As I thought that this edit wouldn't offend anyone, was commonsense, uncontroversal and simple, I made the change myself. I apologise if this edit crossed the line, and I realise that I should have even provided a brief explanation on the talk page; I was either very lazy—which is bad— or was rushing off the computer as I was late for work :). Sorry again. If you still have any concerns with any simple or Admin related actions, please dont hesitate to comment on it. (I will place this message on the talk page of the article.) [edit] 10-year TV shows

Hi. Thanks for contributing to my work-in-progress. Question: how did you find it? I thought user temp pages were unlisted. No complaints - I wasn't planning to release my list into the world until it had a goodly amount of names on it. Cheers! 23skidoo 02:17, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] British football transfer record

Steve Daley's fee was £1,437,500, and was on 5 September 1979, so was probably before Andy Gray. The BBC and the FA sites both call Trevor Francis the first £1 million player. Oldelpaso 12:26, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

All the Manchester City reference books I have at hand use £1,437,500 for Daley. I seem to remember official club publications using that figure (it was a club record for about 15 years). I'll have to dig out Manchester: The Greatest City which is very well researched and ought to shed more light on the matter. Oldelpaso 14:46, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Central Devon

Hey - I have (re)started creating articles for the red links in Constituencies in United Kingdom General Election and notices a page of yours (the playpen?) linked to Central Devon (UK Parliament constituency).

Just wanted to let you know the page has now been created.

[edit] Sylvia Heal

Thanks for comment. I have double checked. Sylvia Heal does not appear in the wikipedia List of current members of the British Privy Council nor is she listed as a privy councillor in the list of MPs held on the Parliamentary website. [1] It is not automatic that a deputy speaker is a privy councillor, indeed the current speaker was formally a deputy speaker but did not become a privy councillor until he was elected speaker in 2000. Unless she has slipped the lists I dont think she is a privy councillor.

[edit] Rotherham County F.C.

Hi Sjorford. I was going to nominate this article for speedy deletion under {{db-club}}, but I see you have linked to it at User:Sjorford/Football 1 on what seems to be a quite comprehensive list. Just wondering if you wouldn't mind expanding this little stub slightly. As the article stands, it doesn't sound like a very interesting club at all.:P Thanks, pfctdayelise 04:43, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree they should be used with caution... which is why I reversed mine as soon as I checked the whatlinkshere. Of course, I should've done that first. :) Thankyou. pfctdayelise 09:58, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Constituency changes

Hey - I've noticed your "playpen" links to a few more constituency articles that has recently been created. Blackpool North and Fleetwood, and Lancaster and Wyre, have been in for a while but your page linked to "...&..", which I hope you don't mind I've changed to fix the link.

On the Cotswold/Cotswolds article, I've not created a new page, just noted on the existing page that the name will change. Should do the same with Taunton/Taunton Deane, never got round to it.

I've only a few pages left on Constituencies in the next United Kingdom general election to complete now - all fun doktorb | words 07:53, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Congratulations

Hi, Sjorford/Archive 2, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. Congratulations, you've just been made a sysop! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except junk like "LALALALAL*&*@#@THIS_SUXX0RZ"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun!

Ilyanep (Talk) 23:11, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Khurshid Marwat

Hi, In trying to vote on second AfD I seem to have deleted the result of first. Sorry! I've copied it to the talk page but can't seem to be able to get it back where it belongs - I'm going to leave this for someone more knowledgeable to fix. Dlyons493 Talk 20:47, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Note that128.103.186.226 seems to have changed a vote from delete to keep in the previous AfD. There was been a lot of vandalism in the course of that AfD and there's already been one blanking incident on this one. Dlyons493 Talk 20:51, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Current events

There seem to be monthly current events pages for all years since the start of WP. And daily current events pages for a few of them; they should really be redirected... unless we want to reverse the process, and create daily CE pages for each day (and perhaps transclude them into the monthly page). +sj + 19:56, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Reversion

Hey Sjoford. I saw you'd previously reverted the article on Gillingham FC to an earlier version, which is why I come to you now. Again there's been vandalism on the page (albeit from an apparant GFC fan)- it has been done methodically and there might be something to salvage from it, but as it currently stands, there'd be a lot for me to edit to get it back to a | presentable state when a simple reversion would do the trick as easily. I will look thoroughly at what (if any) of the current version can be reinstated as an ongoing editor to the article when I get a few moments. Apologies if this isn't the way requests like this are usually done, I'm not overly familiar with the methodology of asking for something of this nature, and it seemed the most direct way. Many thanks in advance. --Lawlore 02:50, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Month Pages

I didn't notice the structure of the month pages until after I offered up the AfD. But I'm wondering... is that format the standard? I notice that the more recent months (February 2006, January 2006, December 2005, etc) are not structured in that manner. joturner 11:37, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stuff I posted on US History

Thanks for comment. Being an administrator, hope you might help.

I'm a middle-school American history teacher and have been compiling subject-connected quotations -- "primary source documents" in US educrat talk. Since the connecting thread is the topic in American History -- WWI, Roaring 20s, Depression, New Deal, WW II -- regular Wikipedia seemed best place to post, as opposed to quotations on a specific topic or those of one specific source.

I hope I'm on the right track, my goal being to provide an on-line location for "primary sources" for my students and any other reader/student of US history wanting to use them.

ANY comments/help/remarks are very appreciated, this being my first attempt at posting.

[edit] From distressed to impressed

Thank you for your nice and kind comments on my first entry into this wikipedia world.

Your action to remove my entry of willimagine was well justified. Wekipedia is indeed not a place for self-pity or self-proclaim. I am sorry about my naivety and ignorance.

I am seeing your prompt and kind feedback as a source of support, from wikipedia, as well as from the e-communities in general. I am now gaining more confidence, and am still learning.

Thanks again and talk to you later.

[edit] Endless article craziness

Hey. I very much agree with the comment you left on my talk page--in fact, you'll note I apologize for moving the page incorrectly on the requested moves page itself. However, I still can't fix the problems with the locations of this particular group of articles because I'm not an admin. Perhaps you can help me out. Here's the deal:

  • The Endless (comics) needs to be relocated to The Endless, as it's the primary use for the term. I can't do this, however, because The Endless is presently a redirect. The Endless (comics) should then probably be deleted or set to redirect to the new The Endless article. I'm not sure what the Wikipedia policy is on having articles with parenthetical tags that describe the main article page. My guess would be redirection.
  • Endless (comics), which is presently a mirror of The Endless (comics) (I didn't do this) should be turned into a redirect to the new The Endless (as changed above) or deleted.

The Endless (disambiguation) doesn't exist, so I can move the page(s) that are around already serving as disambig pages there, and I can also do all the other cleanup myself. I just can't move articles to locations in which something (erroneously) already exists. Want to help? Drasil 22:10, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Greg Raposo

Thanks! It's been so long since my original request that I pretty much forget. I was thinking perhaps I could look for three sources about him, jot down some essential info, and write it up in my own words with a list of references. Does that sound reasonable? Then maybe someone else can correct me on formatting. Queerwiki 17:17, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles you may like to do

Hello! I was just wandering when you would do the seasons of English football articles. There are quite a number of seasons which do not have articles on their own and you had expresssed interest in doing them. As I do not have information about them and the other seasons which you had done were quite impressive, I hope you would be able to complete them if you had the time. Have you lost interest in doing them? --Siva1979Talk to me 09:58, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, I hope that you do NOT lose this interest completely! You are doing a great job and I hate to see these seasons without having any articles on Wikipedia. --Siva1979Talk to me 17:09, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changing page List of U.S. States having 10 or more area codes

It is my understanding that simply removing the content of a page without even giving a discussion or question on the matter is tantamount to vandalism. I feel that your changing of the page List of U.S. States having 10 or more area codes to a redirect without even saying anything to me (as the person who created it) about the change, or in the alternative, asking the community, was relatively rude and was not in line with good practice. As an administrator of Wikipedia I think you should know better than to engage in a serious change such as just blank pages or changing them to redirects. Common courtesy and respect for traditions here would have dictated that you at least said something about it, and I am somewhat disappointed by this action. I have reverted the change back as I feel that it was unreasonable to have made it in the first place without at least some comment on the matter. Paul Robinson 09:14, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Christopher Reeve

Please refrain from any further vandalism of the Christopher Reeve page. I will only present you this warning once. If you persist, then I shall report you for vandalism. Including examples of Christopher Reeve humor makes the article a "jokebook", does it? Following this logic, one must also assume that including examples of the atrocities that transpired during the Holocaust makes any article a snuff porn? People should be exposed to the abject cruelty and demented humor of some in society. It is disrespectful of handicapped people and their loved ones for you to posit otherwise. My mother is paraplegic, and if you think dealing with such humor is a joke, then let me be the one to assure you otherwise. I'm going to assume it was ignorance that compelled you to edit the page, and therefore will not take any further action against you. However, please refrain from any further disrespectful behavior now that you have been made aware of the circumstances. Thank you kindly, and have a nice day.

Violation of 3RR and not discusing on the talk.

Hello, I have made a report at Report as you broke the 3RR even tho i warned you and asked you to join in the discussion. Even tho you are an admin you are not above the rules. Matthew Fenton (contribs) 16:51, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arjen Robben

I'm not paranoid. They really are all out to get us. ;-) SteveO 14:24, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

PS. Do you think it's worth semi-protecting the page? SteveO 15:23, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] plurals

I agree with the reference that "team" behaves as plural, but surely "club" is singular? It's not worth an edit war! --Concrete Cowboy 11:59, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Danny Webb

Ah, gotcha... although as the Emmerdale one has only appeared in Emmerdale so far, maybe he could either stay where he is or move to Danny Webb (television actor). Tim! 18:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks one and all! I think I had a good birthday, although I don't remember much of it :) — sjorford++ 08:21, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Minor football divisions

I have presented my answers to your questions here. On a personal note, I have to disagree with you here. The lack of "notability" exclusively is not a criterion for deletion. --Siva1979Talk to me 16:14, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I have added further comments here. --Siva1979Talk to me 22:34, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Helsinki mistake

No probs, has happened to me too :) thank you for correcting my misstake with the reference anyhow :)

[edit] Football subpage update

As requested, I'm notifiying you of a change to your football page as the Bedford & District League is now the Bedfordshire League. I think I've done all the moves and edits, but time will tell! - fchd 17:25, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for that user box code! Æon Insane Ward 12:24, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Diacritics and page moves

Hi! Recently several editors, including yourself, have reverted edits by User:Gene Nygaard which moved pages to diacriticless titles, or expressed concern at the moves on his talk page. Despite this, Gene has carried on making many moves of this type, some of which will require admin work to revert - this behaviour is becoming disruptive, and is reducing consistency in article naming schemes. Further comments, suggestions and opinions would be welcome either at User talk:Gene Nygaard or at the section started by Renata3 at WP:AN/I. I believe this may require a report at RfM - please let me know if you think this would be a suitable action or otherwise. Aquilina 17:01, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed you reverted some more of Gene's rather ill-advised page moves today- I've left a further note at AN/I. Any further comments or suggestions for what to do next would be appreciated. Aquilina 18:13, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for continuing to fix all these moves. You should not have to be doing this, but it is much appreciated that you do; he's just started again (e.g. Santo Espírito), but hopefully something will happen to stop this continuing. Thanks once more, Aquilina 12:01, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] There will be a Scary Movie 5!

  • Can you come to the discussion page? There are more scources to prove that there will be a fifth.

[edit] Fixing CNRs

Please do not bypass redirects on pages that talk about redirects such as Wikipedia talk:Redirects for discussion. Thank you, Kusma (討論) 10:26, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem. Could you put Welcome, newcomer on your to-do list? See [3]. Thanks, and happy editing, Kusma (討論) 10:30, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redlinks and dab pages

Thanks for your message. I totally disagree. Red links are not bad (they are a means for the encyclopedia to grow) and links pointing to dab pages are bad (there isn't any benefit to pointing to a list of things that mean something else when the correct link is known). Mrsteviec 12:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cross-namespace redirects

Hmm, good point. I don't see a way around this, though, besides removing RfD from the list, which I already do (and manually reviewing every edit). --Rory096 19:03, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I've never reviewed every edit. I review about 10 to make sure the regexes are working properly, then let the bot do the rest. I've bypassed over 9,000 CNRs, which would have taken massive amounts of time if I reviewed each one. --Rory096 20:05, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
This doesn't just take a couple hours. I have about 20,000 edits in 8 months. Doing just the redirects I've done would take several months of not doing anything else, not to mention the thousands that have yet to be bypassed. In that amount of time, I could have annoyed joshbuddy enough to make him write a human-like robot that would check every page and still do it in record time. It's just infeasible to manually check everything. --Rory096 20:21, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Look Who’s Stalking

Sorry, but THAT doesn’t make any sense. --Tobias Schmidbauer 15:51, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your PRODs of Inchinnan F.C., Jocelyn Stadium and Michael Mungai

I noticed that all three were created by User:Michaelj1987. I am going to speedy delete all three of them without waiting the five days, and have warned the user about using Wikipedia for hoax purposes. Does that sound all right to you? --Guinnog 09:42, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the fast reply. All right, here goes... --Guinnog 09:48, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Done. I suggest we keep an eye on this user in future. I'll be interested to see if he replies to my message. --Guinnog 09:54, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Episode titles - reply

I'm aware of the naming conventions for episode titles for wikipedia (and elsewhere), however, the actual title of the episode uses the incorrect grammar. See tv.com (under "notes") and this site. Thanks. -th1rt3en 15:51, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Okeydoke then, as long as that's the wikipedia standard. -th1rt3en 16:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] thanks for moving back

Hi Sjorford, thanks for moving back Ferhat Çökmüş to the real name without a request. I've already requested this from an admin but he didn't move it back. Cheers --Ugur Basak 13:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] thanks for fixing my sloppiness

don't think I even looked at what boxes were in that example Eitch 17:29, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
