[edit] WP Tax Class
Although start class, the article could go to B class. Right now the article covers mostly the legal arguments behind the 16th amendment, but the article would be improved with the addition of content directed towards the social context. Such social context may be those found in the controveries in the states during the ratification process, like newspapers and politicians arguing for and against it.EECavazos 04:02, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WP Tax Priority
Mid priority because it is the legal underpining for some of taxation in a country, and also it may have high traffic.EECavazos 04:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Omission of wording
I feel it could be misleading to omit words in the following paragraph.
The Amendment—which overrules the effect of Pollock[18] -- essentially means that when imposing an income tax, the Congress may impose the tax on income derived from any source or derived without having to apportion the total dollar amount of tax collected from each state according to each state's population in relation to the total national population.
I believe that it would be correctly worded by the inclusion of the indicated word in either place would be correct.
The courts have interpreted the Sixteenth Amendment as standing for the rule that the Amendment allows a direct tax on "wages, salaries, commissions, etc. without apportionment."
This post should also be worded "tax on income derived from" IMO. omission of these words completely changes meaning. I apologize if this is not area to post this.Lojack12b (talk) 15:50, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
