[edit] The Prestige
Hey, Sirjaguar. Regarding your addition to the plot synopsis in The Prestige, I actually have no problem with the interpretation in itself, but that it's the interpretation of a WP editor. As an encyclopedia, WP must present information that is based on third-party sources. Of course, one of the Catch-22s of presenting a book's or film's plot synopsis is that it is invariably the original research of WP editors (rarely is it based on a reliable third-party source). What caught my eye was your phrase "another interpretation". I agree with with your take on it, but my take is no more valid than yours unless we find a third-party source to support it.
The whole Synopsis section could use a revamp, so this might be a good opportunity to work on it. I'm going to re-read the novel so I can sort out the book/film differences again. The frame story should be expanded just a bit (then your description could be added in the proper place), and some sentences ("re-creating the subject wherever is deigned by the device, the subject is also left behind, but as a cold, lifeless shell. Angier, with bitter humour, refers to these shells as 'prestiges'") could use some attention. By the way, adding page numbers from the novel may not help since there are so many possible interpretations of what actually takes place in the story. Any attempt at anything more than bare-bones description would venture into literary criticism. — Jim Dunning talk : 18:51, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
