I Know 7
 • Please consider not using "I Know 7" as your signature. Since it does not at all represent "Sir Drance", it is confusing. Also, according to Wikipedia, "while not an absolute requirement, it is common practice for a signature to resemble to some degree the username it represents." Notice that I also use a custom signature, but it does fairly and accurately represent my username. Thanks! -- LeCourT:C 20:06, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The 7 elements of power.

I have added this article to my watchlist, and, unless there is something in the article proving it should be kept in about ten minutes, I will delete it. J Milburn 19:42, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Sir Drance, you really, really need to add some sources to your article. That means you need to find somewhere someone else has written about these "7 elements of power", then only include in your article the things that this person says, then write where other people can find what this person has said (in a book? newspaper? magazine?). Then you need to do it again for someone else, because you really need more than one source. If you don't put any sources in, it just looks like you're making this stuff up, which would be fine in some places, but this is an encyclopedia. If you don't add some sources fast, your page will be deleted. If you want to play around with creating a page without it getting deleted so fast, try creating a page with the name User:Sir Drance/My Own Page or similar. Skittle 21:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The 7 elements of power.

I have added a "prod" template to the article The 7 elements of power., suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

[edit] Adoption offer

Hey! I'm Jonathan, and I've been editing here since February. I have over 2,000 edits heare, and I would like to adopt you. If you would like to be adopted, please reply on my talk page or you can e-mail me. Thanks, and bye! Cheers, JöиÁ†ĥăИQuality, not quantity. 18:37, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

Yes i will adopt you.Blacksmith talk 08:18, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Another adoption offer

Yes, we're all falling over ourselves to adopt you. :D 'Nee way, thought I'd offer myself- we're of similar age, and I too like science fiction- particularly Stargate Atlantis! Let me know, l'aqúatique talktome 22:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I had tried to respond earlier but my internet went down! 'Nee way, I think the best first thing for me to do would be to ask you, what part of Wikipedia are you most interested in contributing to? (i.e. writing articles, copy-editing, graphic design, vandal patrol) That way I can tailor what I teach you to your specific interests. l'Aquatique talk 03:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Okay, starting with graphic design. Lesson one: (!) Perhaps the most important way to help with the graphic design of articles is to add pictures. You can upload pictures that you have taken, or you can search commons for suitable pictures. You cannot run a google image search and upload whatever you find, since those images are usually copyrighted. Once you've found a picture you want to add, the syntax is . For the size field, you can enter a pixel size (i.e. 13 px) or simply "thumb" to make it a thumbnail. Alignment is either "left", "right", or "center". When an image is a thumbnail, the alt text field displays below the image as a caption, otherwise it simply works as normal alt text. Check out the examples I've created above- the image syntax is in the caption. I've also created a sandbox for you at User:Sir Drance/Sandbox for you to experiment with image syntaxes. I'll write more later for you, okay? Class dismissed! l'Aquatique talk 18:41, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

(unindent)Please accept my humble apologies for taking so long to respond. I've been really busy with semester finals and some other crazy stuff that's going on for me right now. On with the show: obviously you have a fairly good idea of the basics of Wikipedia, so I'll move onto some other stuff.
When I first started here there was one thing that I really found lacking: a directory of wikimarkup. Since you are interested in graphic design I'll start one here for you.

 • <font color="COLOR#"></font> is the tag for making text a certain color. There is a fairly good listing of colors and their respective hex triplet numbers here: List of colors. Just insert the a # followed by the six digit number (it's sometimes a combination of letters and numbers) listed for the color. Make sure to always follow the guidelines set down at WP:COLOUR- they are so designed to make Wikipedia accessible for all users.
 • <font face="FONT FACE"></font> is the tag for making text a certain font. As far as I know, there is no listing of fonts that you can use, so just play around with it. Most system fonts, (i.e. Helvetica, Garamond, Times New Roman) work. Fonts should not be used in mainspace articles.
 • <font size="SIZE"></font> is the tag for making text a certain size. Put the right number where it says size, but note that it does not correspond to the font sizes we are used to in word processors. Same rules apply as with font face: not for use in mainspace!
 • is the tag for making text superscript. Not commonly used, but still important for mathematics and some chemistry articles.
 • is the tag for making text subscript, which is more commonly used, like in chemical equations: H2O.
 • : is used to indent. You probably know that, but oh well.
 • * is used to make bullets. If you put two in a row, it will indent AND bullet.
 • # is used to make numbered lists.
 • <br> is used to create line breaks.

Play around with these tags for a while, and I'll write again as soon as I can!
By the way, I don't watch football. I'm not really that into organised sports, although I do have a bit of a soft spot for hockey. Mostly, I like sports that I can do alone or with a small group of friends- hike, bike, ice skate, snow ski, surf (only in cold water!!), etc. Did you catch this Friday's SG-A? Bummer about how they brought back Weir only to kill her again! Argh... oh well... All 'da best-- l'Aquatique talk 06:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, I don't have a lot of time to write- I should be writing a paper on the Intertidal Environments of Southeastern Alaska, but I will just throw this out here for you then go work. There is an add-on called wikED that makes many of these functions work just as they would in a word processor like Microsoft Word or Corel Word Perfect- you simply highlight the text and push the bold button, or the superscript button, etc and it does the rest. It also shows these changes in the edit box, and color-codes text based on what it is- wikimarkup is blue, links are red, etc, in addition to making hex triplet numbers highlighted in the color they represent. I cannot recommend it highly enough- it's an incredible tool without which I would probably not be able to contribute to Wikipedia! Currently it only runs on Firefox, so if you use Mozilla Firefox there are complete instructions on how to install it on its page, here: User:Cacycle/wikEd
As for sci-fi, no I don't watch heroes. I've heard excellent things about it, but I've only so much time in the day, yah? :D Weir had been captured by the replicators at the beginning of the season so they could replace her with Samantha Carter, who then is basically never on the show anyway because that actress is off making SG-1 movies. Weir was in Friday's episode, only she was a copy of herself, who then died. It was very sad. :(
One more thing. My other adoptee, 4drenalin3 is mostly interested in vandal fighting, so I've been talking with her/him about that. However, I asked her/him to hop-skip over here and take a look at the graphic design stuff I have written for you. I have also instructed her/him to ask you any questions that (s)he has about this material, so you get a chance to practice it! On the flip side, if you want to go over to his/her talk page and take a look at what I have written about vandal fighting, that would be great. l'Aquatique talk 19:40, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Read over this, it explains it pretty well. WP:MONOBOOK If you still have questions, let me know. :D l'Aquatique talk 19:51, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Just found this, it's a directory of wikimarkup, of sorts. There are a couple of things missing, but all in all a great resource for things I might have missed. l'Aquatique talk 20:20, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, one more thing. You don't have to worry about someone else touching your monobook- it is protected so only you can edit it. For example, click here to try to edit my monobook. l'aqùatique talk 20:47, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 4drenalin3

Hi Sir Drance. I'm, as you know already, l'aqúatique's other adoptee. I've read some stuff about graphics on your page and there were a lot of things I didn't know yet. It seems interesting :) If you have any questions about vandalism, feel free to contact me. 4drenalin3 (talk) 19:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More graphic design

Hi, hope this finds you well.

 1. Signatures...

A signature is simply the string that follows whatever you have written to identify that you have written it. All signatures link back to the userpage of the signer, and most have a link to the talk page, too. Usually they follow some form of:

Sir Drance([[User Talk: Sir Drance|talk)

There's a couple of ways to spiffy up your signature. Here is the code for my signature:

<font face="monotype corsiva"><font color="black"><font size="4">l'aqùatique</font><font> <font color="#2E8B57"><font face="georgia">talk</font></font>

As you can see, I have used a combination of a lot of the attributes I showed you earlier in order to make a fancy signature.
In my opinion, the best way to design your fancy signature is to make it a template. First, start a subpage of your userpage called User:Sir Drance/signature, then design your signature on that page. When you have it the way you like it, simply hit the "My Preferences" button at the top of the page, then, in the signature box, insert . Check the button that says "Raw Signature", save, and you're good to go. If you ever want to make changes to the signature, make them on the subpage and it will automatically make that change for all new posts you sign. Just a few things to keep in mind:

 • Make sure every attribute has a closing tag as well (i.e. ) or that attribute will carry over into anything else written on the page after your signature. You can test this by typing a few words after your signature when you are designing it- if the words remain plain-text, you're good to go.
 • Keep it simple- a signature that is too fancy is distracting, and may annoy other editors.
 1. Pictures behind the puzzle globe.

Use this code at the top of your userpage:
<span style="position:absolute;top:-40px;left:-200px;z-index:10"></span>
Replace "Gay_flag.svg" with whatever image you want. You will need to play around a little with the sizing to make it fit just right. You can move the image around a little bit using the "top" and "left" attributes. If you need help, just let me know.
All the best... l'aqùatique talk 19:50, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

There is a little check-box right under the signature box that says "Raw signature". Make sure that's checked. l'aqùatique talk 20:22, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
I would make your signature a little smaller. It's kind of overpowering. Otherwise, it looks nice, though. l'aqùatique talk 19:56, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I fixed it. Somehow, the string _NOTOC_ ended up on your page, which supressed the table of contents. I added _FORCETOC_ so it shouldn't be a problem from now on. l'aqùatique talk 20:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Hi

Wow, it is so nice to know that someone took the courtesy just to say "hi". Thanks! Oh yeah, "hi" to you too!  Wikirocks  03:37, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
