Sirt (Arabic: سرت) is a city in Libya, in the Surt Municipality, seat of some important governmental institutions (on the national level) and hometown of the Libyan leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi.

In October 2007, Surt was the site of talks between the government of Sudan and certain Darfur rebel groups.[1]

  • China Railway Construction Company wins $2.6b bids in Libya [2]. A west-to-east coastal railway 352km from Al Khums to Sirt and a south-to-west railway 800km long for iron ore transport from the southern city Sebha to Misurata.
