Sirkazhi Govindarajan was born January 19 1933 in Sirkali in Madras Presidency.He is one of leading vocalists in Carnatic Music. Sirkazhi Govindarajan started performing at the age of eight in Tirupurasundari Temple.He graduated from the Tamil Isai College in Chennai in 1949 and he learnt music from Thiruppampuram Swaminatha Pillai.He was confered the Padmasri Award by the Government of India.He has also done Playback singing in Tamil and Telugu[1] Madras University conferred the Doctor of Law on him (Honoris Causa) in 1983.
