Siren FM, sometimes known simply as Siren, is a community radio station based at the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom. It broadcasts to the city of Lincoln on 107.3 FM and at its website, Siren Online.
[edit] History
Siren FM began as a student radio station at the Hull campus in 1996, when the institute was known as the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside. Along with most of the university over time, Siren moved to Lincoln in 1998. It has broadcast online for much of each academic year, and on FM with a Restricted Service Licence each year in April or May[1].
These broadcasts were used by the university as opportunities for its Media Production students to showcase their work and take their exams live on air[2], and has invited local schoolchildren to produce and present programmes[3].
The university was awarded its community radio licence from Ofcom in 2006[4], and began test transmissions for the new station at midday on 14 July 2007. The new licence means the station will be more involved with the community outside of the university when it begins programmes on 11 August 2007.
