Sir William Bowyer-Smijth, 11th Baronet

Sir William Bowyer-Smijth, 11th Baronet DL, JP (22 April 1814 – 20 November 1883) was a British politician.
The son of Sir Edward Bowyer-Smijth, 10th Baronet and Laetitia Cecily Weyland, he was born as William Smijth but changed his name to Bowyer-Smitjth on 10 June 1839. Educated at Eton College, Berkshire and Trinity College, Cambridge, he succeeded to his father's baronetcy on 15 August 1850. From 1852 to 1857, Bowyer-Smijth was Member of Parliament (MP) for South Essex. He served then in the 19th Essex Volunteers, reaching the rank of Lieutenant in 1860 and was also a Deputy Lieutenant and a Justice of Peace. He died, aged 69 in Twineham Court in Sussex.
Bowyer-Smijth married twice, on 2 April 1839 firstly Marianne Frances Meux, daughter of Sir Henry Meux, 1st Baronet in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire and on 19 March 1875 secondly Eliza Fechnie Malcolm, daughter of David Baird Malcolm in Cheltenham, London. He had two sons, including his heir William Bowyer-Smijth and one daughter by his first wife, and six sons and nine daughters by his second wife. The baronetcy passed onto his nephew.
