Sir Richard Mcbride Elementary School was founded in 1911, named after Richard McBride. The school's symbol is an eagle, and the school colours are white, blue, and yellow.

McBride has a vibrant music program including choir with 120 members, a band, and a recorder club. The school also has an excellent Sports and Athletics Program. This includes, Track and Field, Volleyball, Basketball and Cross Country Running.

The school provides numerous activities, both sports- or academic-related. In the academic year 2006-2007 these included chess, sewing, crochet, yoga, participating in the Vancouver Sun Run, computers, winners in the Lego League, winners in the Historica Fair, various dramatic and musical productions including Treasure Island.
