Sir M.Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (Sir MVIT) is is one of the top engineering colleges in India. Located in Bangalore, the institute is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The college is located in a verdant campus at the outskirts of Bangalore city on Bangalore-Hyderabad (NH4) road.

The College is Managed by Sri Krishnadevaraya Educational Trust. The Trust registered on 14th October, 1985 started working towards the establishment of an engineering college named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

The Trust started the College with an intake of 120 in a small building near the Trust office in the Bangalore Palace grounds in the year 1986. The College was shifted during 1990 to a campus of about 135 acres (0.55 kmĀ²) situated about 23 km from the city of Bangalore. The present intake of the institute is 540. The Institute currently has nearly 2600 students and over 145 teaching faculty.

MVIT is located in Bangalore. Sir MVIT offers 9 under Grad degree programs and 4 Post Grad Programs.

Highlights and Achievements :

  • Sir MVIT is Ranked 38th in the Country, 5th in Karnataka and 4th in Bangalore City.[citation needed]
  • It is among the 100 top Tech Schools listed out by a survey conducted by DATAQUEST / IDC / NASSCOM, May 31, 2006 issue of Data Quest (A cyber media publication).
  • All of its departments are accredited by National Board of Accreditation New Delhi.
  • Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering are declared as R&D centers by the university.

The Administrative Building

The Electronics Block - houses the Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering Departments

Computer Science Block - Houses the Computer Science Engineering, Information Science and Bio Technology Engineering Departments.

The Mechanical Block - Houses the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management Disciplines.

Apart form these buildings the College has separate blocks for Library and Information Centre, Hostels, Staff Quarters.

Sir MVIT ha currently over 70 Full Time Faculty and over 10 Doctorates On-Campus in varied fields of specialisation in the engineering departments. Various Research Fields include Image Processing, Fuzzy Logic, Embedded Systems, VLSI Design, Speech Procesing etc.

The Electronics and Telecommunicaton, The Mechanical Engg. departments have been recognized as R & D Centers by Visvesvaraya Technological University for carrying out research works for the award of M.Sc. (Engg.) and Ph.D. Six research scholars have registered for their Ph.D & M.Sc (Eng.) degrees.

The Civil Department does Consultancy Work especially in the fields of Concrete Cubes Testing, Highway Materials Testing, Soil Testing and Environmental Engineering giving more exposure through practical training for its students.

Sir MVIT's has a cultural Team under the name 'Susamskriti' the cultural forum of SIR MVIT, started in 1994. An inter college Cultural festival 'KALANJALI' is held every year. Many colleges in the state participate. It also hosts 'Technotsav' an inter-collegiate technical festival. A two-day event which includes various competitions that will be held during the event include product launch, technical quiz, treasure hunt, web designing, hardware presentation, animation, software presentations.

GAP-Getting Across to People ,the theater forum of Sir MVIT ,regularly conducts plays and assists students to improve their various theatrical skills.

The E-Wings ,which is the entrepreneurship cell of Sir MVIT conducts activities , that include talks by various prominent figures from the field of technology,science and management

The Institute Sports Complex has different play fields all of regulation size. The Campus houses sprawling sports grounds and Courts which include

In addition, the institute conducts N. Narayana Raju Memorial State Level Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament and Prof. B. Basavaraj Trophy State Level Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament for staff.

SIR MVIT Alumni Association was registered with the Registrar of Societies on 3rd August 1998. Alumni meets are arranged twice a year. The Alumni association also publishes 'Smrti' The Alumni magazine, to provide a link between the college and its graduates.
