The institute is named after Sir. M. Visvesvaraya, an illustrious son of Karnataka and an engineer and a statesman par excellence. It is located on a vast expanse of 53.8 hectares on NH7, at a distance of 21 km from Bangalore city railway station. The institute has nearly 2600 students and over 145 teaching faculty.
The institute has the following departments: 1. Mechanical engineering. 2. Electrical and Electronics engineering. 3. Computer sciences (engineering). 4. Biotechnology engineering. 5. Telecomn.. engineering. 6. Civil Engineering.
There are also several Post Graduation courses in the above mentioned fields offered in the institute. The institute has excellent sporting facilities, on campus ATM, Library, internet centre, gymnasium and various other facilities. There is also hostel facility for housing several hundred students.
The institute is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi.
