Sir Christus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sir Christus, born Jukka Kristian Mikkonen, April 10th 1978, was one of the two guitarists of the Finnish rock band Negative. Now he is in a new band called Black Jezus. His father was Arwo Mikkonen, guitarist of the legendary Finnish rock band Popeda. His father passed away in 1986, leaving 6-year old Christus and his 3-year old brother Matthau, ex-singer in Bloodpit, without a father figure in their life. He has a daughter named Camilla.

Christus played the bass-guitar in Bloodpit for two years before he joined Negative.

On Negative's latest single Fading yourself (March 14th 2007), Sir Christus did vocals for a bonustrack, Lost in America (Originally by Alice Cooper). Negative has never performed this song live. Christus claims this to be because he 1) can't sing while playing the guitar and 2) is bad at remembering any lyrics at all. Christus has performed this song live, first with the band Private Line, November 28th 2007. For the encore, Sammy didn't re-appear on stage, but Christus did and they performed Lost in America. Christus ended the song with kissing every guy on stage except for Eliaz who was stuck behind his drums. Later he also performed this song with his band Black Jezus.

He is known for dressing up in mainly pink, female-looking clothes, or wearing nothing but a buff as a skirt (which happened during a concert in Moscow, October 21st 2006. He was "normally dressed" for the gig and then he changed to the buff for the encore.). He is prone to wear black leather a lot lately, and red clothes. Asked whether red was his new favourite colour, he answered, '"This is just a phase."' (Interview September 15th 2007)

[edit] Negative

Negative is a Finnish glam rock band located in Tampere. They released their first album, War of Love in 2003. War of love has sold gold in Finland. In 2004 they came with their second album, Sweet & Deceitful. Late 2006 Anorectic made its appearance.

According to Jonne Aaron, [vocalist of Negative] Christus was always the one in school that all the girls were in love with so as soon as Jonne eyed Christus he knew that they needed someone like him in Negative

Negative consists of 6 young guys. Jonne Aaron on vocals, Sir Christus and Larry Love on the guitars, Jay Slammer on drums, Antti Anatomy on bass and Snack on keyboards.

As of January 15th, 2008, Sir Christus is no longer a part of Negative.

[edit] Current Projects

[edit] Black Jesus

Christus has had a sideproject since fall 2007 that is called Black Jesus - the name was later changed to Black Jezus and then changed back to Black Jesus. When he left Negative, at first people thought Christus had disappeared from the face of earth... But then suddenly there were dates announced in February with this strange band with a seemingly strange line up. There were speculations about Christus and his position in this band, and the band was thought to be what it was to begin with: a side project, a mere base for playing some shows and cover songs and have some fun.

Now it seems that this band is serious and have been interviewed with suiciderock webzine, in which Christus and Macceus confirmed that they are a serious band and will make serious music. Black Jezus plans to record an album to be released in fall 2008.

Line up:

  • Macceus - vocals (Sister Shotgun)
  • Christus - guitar+backing vocals (ex-Negative)
  • Raffe - guitar (The Bitterlicks)
  • Jimmie Sosweat - bass
  • Eero - drums (Heijaste)

[edit] Matthau Mikojan

Shortly after Christus' leaving Negative, there were rumours that he would join his brother's project on bass. It wasn't until late that Matthau himself announced his line up that the rumours were confirmed, but Christus plays the guitar still, and not the bass. He was thought to be only a part of the live shows, like the rest of the line up, but it seems now that Matthau and the guys are becoming a compact band as well.

Christus left this project after three months and the band will not replace him.

In March/early April there were shootings of a music video for the song "Too Fortunate to Cry", in which it is only confirmed that Matthau and Christus appear - wearing night gowns.

Line up:

  • Matthau Mikojan - vocals+second guitar
  • Sir Christus - guitar+backing vocals
  • Teemu Broman - bass
  • Simo Stenmann - drums

[edit] Hairstyles

Christus and the Jukka-Palm. Also The Pink Lady, his number one guitar and trademark.
Christus and the Jukka-Palm. Also The Pink Lady, his number one guitar and trademark.
  • 2000: Bleached blonde, short.
  • 2002: Vaguely dirty blonde, reaches the jaw, messy (he looked like he was trying to get dreads, just without.. doing it properly.)
  • 2003: Shoulder long and black in the beginning of the year. Then curls.. then blonde streaks in the curls.
  • 2004: Shorter black, now with short pink and white extensions by his ears.
  • 2005. He grew it longer and kept it black. Started to wear a bandana round his forehead in the middle of the year and grew a beard towards the end of the year. Known as his pirate phase. for NYE he cut the hair in the sides short and bleached it white. This soon became known as the badger look.
  • 2006: He kept the beard for some months, then cut it off. The hair grew but he continued keeping the sides white. At some point he started using excessive make up causing him to look like a clown. Together with the haircut, he had now a peculiar clown-look, which was one of his most discussed and famous looks.
  • 2007: In spring he dyed the hair black, and this is where the Jukka-Palm springs into life.
  • 2008: In spring he shaved one side of his head and kept growing the rest long.

One of Christus' hairstyles (seen throughout spring 2007 and until spring 2008, in various shapes) has been named Jukka-palm by his fans. This comes of the way it bristles, so that it reminds of a Yucca palm. Due to Christus' first name being Jukka, his hairstyle therefore got this name.

[edit] The Pink Lady

Sir Christus is best known together with his pink guitar, the Pink Lady. This guitar, a Flying Finn, has Sir Christus written on her neck.

During a Negative show in China, October 1st 2007, Sir Christus killed a guitar on stage. Fans all over the world were shocked, cause it seemed that he had murdered the Lady. Luckily a couple of days later the news came that it was just a cheap, pink guitar which Negative's manager Tommi Liimatainen had bought in Bejing for the occasion. A lot of people were still very much in shock. The Lady is considered part of Sir Christus and can simply not be hurt.

September 11th 2005 during a concert in Bochum, Germany, Christus accidentally damaged The Pink Lady. Near the end of the show, he was rolling over the floor and that was when the accident happened. He was very confused and in great shock; he could simply not believe it was broken. The day after in Cologne, The Pink Lady reappeared on stage held together with duct-tape.
