[edit] Athletics career
From 1993 to 2000, she was national champion in the triple jump[1], and also national indoor champion (1993, 1996–1999). Hoey was national long jump champion in 1989.[2][3] Her best triple jump was 12 metres 38 cm which was very low compared to athletes in other countries.
[edit] Bobsleigh career
In 1999, Siobhán and sister, Aoife, were selected for Ireland's first women's bobsleigh team though under age Aoife couldn't compete. Siobhán and Lesley Fitzgerald were the first Irish women to compete at the FIBT World Championships, doing so at Calgary, Canada in 2001.[4]. They didn't qualify for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Siobhán took a year off from being a teacher in Dublin while Aoife took a study break. The sisters received partial funding from the Olympic Council of Ireland but no commercial sponsorship.[5] They didn't qualify for the 2006 Winter Olympics.[6]
Hoey's best finish at FIBT World Championships was 22nd out of 23 in the two-woman event at Calgary in 2005.[7]
