Sino-Vietnamese

Sino-Vietnamese is often used to mean:

• Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary: That portion of the Vietnamese vocabulary that is of Chinese origin or makes use of morphemes of Chinese origin (similar to the use of Latin/Greek in English).

"Sino-Vietnamese" is also used to refer to:

• The ethnic group or Hoa (See also Chinese Vietnamese people in Ho Chi Minh City)
• Ngái, rural-dwelling Chinese speakers, counted separately from the Hoa
• San Diu, the so-called "Mountain Chinese", who speak an archaic dialect of Cantonese
• Gin people, one of the 55 officially-recognised ethnic minorities of the People's Republic of China
• Vietnamese people in Hong Kong
• People of mixed Chinese and Vietnamese descent
• The Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979
