Sinnington railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sinnington was a minor station serving the village of Sinnington on the former Gilling and Pickering (G&P) line opened in 1875. This line followed today's main A170 road corridor from Helmsley to Pickering.
[edit] History
It closed on 31st January 1953[1] for both passengers and freight, with the end of the York-Pickering service via Gilling and Helmsley, and the track was lifted between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside in the same year. By this time there were only 3 trains each way per day, but the service was never at any level acceptable for the 21st century.
[edit] Public transport to Sinnington today
It is still possible to travel between Kirkbymoorside and Pickering, Scarborough and Helmsley from Sinnington without the use of a car - this is possible using East Yorkshire bus line 128, running up to hourly during the day, but with no Sunday winter service.
