Since 2004, major popularity-cum-performance contests were held and aired on television. This is a list of popularity contests.

The Singaporean version of the singing contest American Idol, Singapore Idol has the same gameplay and crowns the winner Taufik Batisah, who has released two albums.

This contest is a Chinese version of the English Singapore Idol, but with different rules. Males are separated from females to compete against one another before each winner meets each other at the grand finals.

The quest continues with this major contest. The response during the auditions were overwhelming and this contest released two personal magazines regarding the Top 12.

The first major popularity performance contest to have teenage contestants in Campus SuperStar, the school version of Project SuperStar. The only differences are of the grand finals were 4 contestants compete instead of 2.

Commonly, all contests have the contestants performing (a song, a drama act, a hosting procedure etc.), then promoting their vote number for audiences and fans to dial.

Usually, the results of the shows are announced later on the same night of broadcast. Results for Singapore Idol are announced 24 hours later, whereas for Project SuperStar, the results are announced on the 2nd night for each week's broadcast.
