Sinclair Secondary School is located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada within the Durham District School Board. It serves ninth through twelfth grade students from the north Whitby area. It is also the Whitby site for students in gifted education, French immersion, and special education programs. Sinclair is presently the largest high school in Whitby.

Sinclair was founded in 1994, on top of an old one-room schoolhouse site. Today, Sinclair is fully networked with 550 computers, as well as televisions in classrooms and hallways which depict announcements and the time. The school offers many extracurricular activities, such as clubs (Students Together Against Racism, Model U.N., Debate Club, etc.) the gay straight alliance, anime club and sports (football, wrestling, field hockey, lacrosse, golf etc). The school also has an active arts department (drama, music). Sinclair presently boasts some of the highest provincial test scores in literacy and math. The school has a cooperative education program that allows students to gain practical experience in the workplace, co op can be done in an office or range to an architectural firm. Sinclair recently introduced a course based on baseball and also a native studies course. Most notably, in 2005, the school raised an astounding $37 000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The money raised went towards helping children and families in Africa.

Sinclair Secondary School is attached to the Durham Board Education Centre. The school consists of four floors: two above the main floor and one below. It includes two cafetoriums, two gymnasiums (one large and one small) and one library. The school grounds contain two football fields and one baseball diamond.

[edit] Social issue campaigns

Recently, the school has undergone extensive fundraising campaigns focusing on specific social issues. The Race Against Time campaign in 2006 focused on the issue of HIV/AIDS in Africa and culminated in a speech by Stephen Lewis, the United Nations' special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, with all fundraising going towards his foundation.
