Sinazongwe is a town in the Southern Province of Zambia, lying on the north shore of Lake Kariba. It was constructed in the 1950s as a local administrative centre, while its main industry now is kapenta fishing. It is also home to a lighthouse and an airstrip, while ferries sail to Chete Island. Comercial plots have just been sold to potential investors who are all looking at bringing more tourism into the area. With a proposed campsite, lodge and many more future tourist attractions to come, Sinazongwe is looking to become the new must go to holiday destination for tourists as well as local holiday makers. Sinazongwe is accessible nearly all year round. Access is by tar road from Batoka (which is between Monze and Choma)and by 17 km of gravel road just outside Sinazeze Town. The nearest air strip (SEYMORE) is approximately 6 km from Sinazongwe on the Zambeef Cropping section. It is advisable to contact Zambeef and alert them of your arrival in advance in order for safety procedures. The nearest large hospital is at Maamba which is about a 40 min drive from Sinazongwe, however there is a small hospital in Sinazongwe as well as a local clinic. The nearest town with a reasonable selection of grocery shops etc. is Choma, which is 95 km from Sinazongwe (one and a half hour’s drive), how ever Zambeef has recently introduced two butchery outlets , one in Sinazeze and one in Sinazongwe, where you can buy fresh bread, butter, milk, yogurt, choice meat, beef, poultry, and various other juices, all of which are Zambeef products. Fuel should be purchased in Choma or Monze,(depending which direction you are coming from), as there are no fuel stations in Sinazeze OR Sinazongwe. Sinazongwe is only a three and a half hour drive from Livingstone and three and a half hour drive from Zambias capital , Lusaka , therefore giving it good access to an international airport from either direction as well as to one of the seven-wonders of the world – Victoria Falls, Livingstone. Sinazongwe is also the first place that travellers from South Africa, Namibia and Botswanna can get to see or visit Lake Kariba. The next being Siavonga which is on the other end of the Lake around 750Km away, give or take. When it comes to tourism, Sinazongwe is relatively untouched , unspoiled and uncommercialised. The people of Sinazongwe are friendly and welcoming. Depending on the time of year there are various local ceremonies (Liiwindi Ceremony in July/August) which tourists are welcome to attend and observe. ````
