Sin Chew Jit Poh (traditional Chinese: 星洲日報; simplified Chinese: 星洲日报; pinyin: Xīng Zhōu Rìbào) or Sin Chew Daily, is a major newspaper and the no.1 Chinese newspaper in Malaysia. Founded in 15 January 1929 by Aw Boon Par (胡文豹) and Aw Boon Haw (胡文虎), founder of the Tiger Balm (虎標萬金油) in Singapore. [1]

In October 1987, three newspapers, The Star, Sin Chew Jit Poh, and Watan, had their publishing permits suspended temporarily due to concern that they might be inciting controversy in the wake of Operation Lalang.

In 1988 Tiong Hiew King, a tycoon of Sibu, Sarawak who own Rimbunan Hijau bought the newspaper to resume it for operation. [2] He is accused of trying to duopoly the local Chinese newspapers along with political party Malaysian Chinese Association.

Sin Chew Daily is a member of the Asia News Network.
