[edit] Image Tagging Image:Arthur winston 100.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Arthur winston 100.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --Harro5 23:00, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Air Nunavut
I noticed that you had the external link and the destinations listed as Canadian North here. I removed them because nothing on its site indicates that it operates sked service. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 00:35, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Settlements
It's debatable as to them actually being settlements or not and it's part of the reason that I broke up the list into the way it is. As an example of places being communities it is unlikley that anyone in Nunavut would think of Alert as one. It's somewhere that people are posted, be they military or Envionment, for a period of time. My understanding is that the people who are there are still considered to be residents of the provience they came from. In the same way that a student from here who goes to university in Alberta for 4 years is still a resident of Nunavut. But that's still original research until I can find confirmation.
Ennadai was a weather station, such as Mould Bay on Prince Patrick Island, at Ennadai Lake and there were Inuit in the area. It was never really a settlement but from this it does appear that there was contact. But of course in those days a lot of people if not most were still nomadic. I'll ask one of my co-workers later and see what he know about the place.
Now for the other two I will have to tell you first about something I do know so I can tell you my suspicions of Tavani & Padlei. If you look at the second of the two maps at Victoria Island (Canada) you can see that on the green part in the NWT both Fort Collinson and Holman (now Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories) are marked. Fort Collinson, now abandoned, was either a Hudsons Bay or North West Company post. Just south of Collinson, but north of Ulukhaktok is Minto Inlet and there was another trading post there. Then at the bottom of the island on the southwest coast there was a Hudsons Bay post on Reid Island. These posts like many others would have had only one or two people living there all year round, to start with. In some places there may have been a missionary or RCMP post as well. Over time a few families might have stated to spend most of the year near the post rather than persist in the nomadic lifestyle. In some cases they may have done so to stay near the daughter that was living with the post manager, in others the wildlife in the area was sufficent to enable them to survive and trade with moving. They traded the fox skins that for the most part were not wanted by the Inuit. Over time the North West Company post shut down and the HBC was left with two posts. They decided over time to shut them down and make one post at Ulukhaktok. At that time Ulukhaktok was just a place that the Inuit sometimes visited to get slate for Ulu's. So the whole point of this is, where Reid Island, Fort Collinson and Minto Inlet settlements in the same way that Ulukhaktok is? My opinion is that the were not and were trading posts only.
Most of the above is gained from having lived in Ulukhaktok for 20 years but I do actually have a proper source for most of it. Now on to Padlei. Based on what I could find on the net I think that it was not much more than an abandoned trading post but I don't know for what company. This story from 2000 talks of a woman going to Padlei to seek help. She must have known that there would be people there. Now Inuit in those days tended to move to the same area at the same season year after year. So she may have known that people would be there to hunt caribou or that there was a post there. Next this says that Padlei was a trading post and this at least shows that the place was west of Hudson Bay. Now this caption and the larger picture give more information. If you look at the bed they are sitting on and the wall behind them it's easy to see that this is not taken inside the post host. Anyway in the 1950s most Inuit would not have been let into the house. However, the wall looks solid rather than a tent frame so I would suspect that a few families were living semi-permenant in the area similiar to the posts in the previous paragraph. And this (search for Padlei) indicates it was an HBC post. Of course this is just guess work based onwhat I know rather than properly sourced material. By the way the co-op and hotel in Arviat are also called Padlei. I'm not sure what the word means but I did see that the people were called Padleimiut.
Tavani is much harder to find. There's this PDF, google sat map and multimap and this map which shows bot Padlei and Tavani. The hotel in Whale Cove is called Tavani. Now searching for Tavani Northwest Territories got this which again says an abandoned trading post.

- Hello Simtropolitan. I just started Tavani, Nunavut. Am hoping other editors with some good resources can contribute to it as I haven't found much. Cheers Rosiestephenson (talk) 02:03, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
I will ask later if anyone knows the meaning of either Tavani or Padlei but with the large differences in dialects it may not make any sense. A tip on searching for this sort of thing is to always try them under Nunavut and Northwest Territories. Sorry about the length of this. One last link, this has a cople of pictures taken in the 1950s in the Padlei area by Richard Harrington when the people were starving. Hope some of this helps. Thanks for the information, when I www.google.com Googled these communities I could find anything except I did find that Ennadai is a location for the Ennadai Lodge which was built in 2000. Once again, many thanks, I will use this information well. Simtropolitan 09:36 EDST, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I did ask the guy at work but all he knew of Ennadai was that people didn't like working there because of the mosquitos. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 13:57, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bergerpicard.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Bergerpicard.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Pharaoh Hound (talk) 21:32, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Introductory Inuktitut
I assume that from what you said that you tried NAC and their order form. Have you tried some of the rare bookshops on the net. I was able to get some out of print books about the north but they can cost quite a lot. You might also try googling the ISBN number. Did you see this page (scroll to the bottom), you might want to ask User:Diderot as he appears to have a copy. The Office of the Langauge Commissioner may have something. And if you want you could try and email his wife Alexina Kublu and ask if she knows where a copy could be found. Good luck. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 01:36, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nunavut portal
Can you have a look at this and see if it would be any good for the portal or Cambridge Bay. This kind of stuff usually doesn't happen up here. I would put it in but I'm too close to the subject, having had a run-in with one of the dead guys, and probably couldn't write it in a neutral manner. Thanks. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Trvl dk.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:Trvl dk.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] The CW Television Network
As far as I know, The CW Television Network's full name is simply that, and not "The Columbia-Warner Television Network" (Columbia appears to refer to the first word in "Columbia Broadcasting System," the old full name for CBS, which has not been used since April 17, 1974 — almost 32 years before The CW was even announced). Although the "C" definitely refers to CBS (see prior parenthesis for why it's CBS and not Columbia) and the "W" definitely refers to Warner Bros., "CW" is not expanded on in any official name for the network. Hense, your edit has been undone. Thank you for your understanding. --WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 23:05, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image source problem with Image:Airnunavut.jpg
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Airnunavut.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC). [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:MagicalMaestroTC.png
Thank you for uploading Image:MagicalMaestroTC.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 00:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Arthur winston 100.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:Arthur winston 100.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
