Simple Things is the nineteenth album by Christian music and pop music singer-songwriter Amy Grant, released in 2003 (see 2003 in music).
Grant's first secular album (while containing Christian themes) since 1997's Behind the Eyes, Simple Things did not see the mainstream success similar to Grant's albums from the 1990s. While the album topped Billboard's Christian album chart and the title track became a Top Ten Christian single, Simple Things peaked just outside the Top Twenty on the Billboard 200, at #23. The title track peaked at the same position on the Adult Contemporary chart.
In 2007, Simple Things was reissued by Grant's new record label, EMI/Sparrow Records, along with thirteen other Amy Grant albums. With the exception of Simple Things, each EMI reissue is labeled with a "Digitally Remastered" logo in the 'gutter' on the CD front. Press releases from EMI/Sparrow stated that Simple Things was digitally remastered as well, but the absence of a label and the fact that the album was only four years old at the time has led some to question whether the album has actually been remastered or if the press release was a mistake. Major retailers such as Amazon.com label the release as a remastered edition. [1] [2] [3] The 2007 edition of the album is distinguishable from the previous Word Records/A&M Records release by the presence of an EMI/Sparrow label on the back of the case, slightly different rear cover art from that of the original release, and a clear 'gutter' with a white background on the front of the CD case.
