The song was also covered by Nilsson and appeared in an early episode of The Muppet Show by the character Scooter, who plays Simon Smith with Fozzie Bear as the dancing bear. The song is about a sincere young man of modest means named Simon Smith who entertains affluent diners with his dancing bear, which may or may not be a real bear.
