Simon Sabiani

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon Sabiani (1888-1956) was a French politician. From 1929 to 1935, he was the first counsellor (adjoint) to the mayor of Marseille, Siméon Flaissières. After Flaissières' death in 1931, he became for a short period mayor during the interim.

Sabiani was originally a media boss, from Corsican origins and with Socialist convictions. However, he oriented himself towards Fascism during the interwar period, becoming a member of the political bureau of Jacques Doriot's Parti populaire français (PPF). He was head of the local section of the PPF starting in 1936.

Sabiani worked tightly with figures of the Marseillese underground, such as Paul Carbone, François Spirito and Antoine Guérini. He collaborated during World War II and exiled himself with François Spirito after the Liberation.
